5人の姉弟、The 5 Brownsのデビューアルバム。
ビルボードクラシックチャートを8週(10週という情報もあり)も賑わせたらしい。

クラシックに詳しくなくても知ってるような曲たちで、親しみやすい。高校時代にさんざん聞いた「ウエスト・サイドストーリー」のアレンジは「お、そうくるか！」という感じだった。

演奏スタイルとインタビューを見るのが楽しみ。5台のグランドピアノが並んで演奏している姿は、実際に是非見てみたい。

今後の活躍の期待も込めて、☆5つ。

「The 5 Browns」を聴いた。５人の兄弟姉妹によるクラシック・ピアノ演奏であり、これがデビューアルバムである。全１１曲のうち、ピアノ５台による連弾あり、デュオ、ソロと各人の持ち味を披露しながら、全体をまとめ上げた逸品だ。とくに５台のピアノによる演奏は、表現豊かな部分、リズミカルなタッチ、エレガントな雰囲気といった個人の特性を失うことなく、融合しあって、濃密かつ重厚な音楽となって奏でられている。
　ソロのパートでは、各人の持ち味が最大限に発揮されていて、選曲も非常にマッチしている。すなわち、このCDは、この５人兄弟姉妹のポテンシャルがどの程度のものなのかを、正確に示してくれていて、まさにデビューアルバムというスタートポジションを感じさせてくれる。
　購入したパッケージには、CDとDVDが１枚ずつ入っている。私は、先にCDを聴いたのだが、そこでは、ピアノ音の重厚さだけしか感じ取ることが出来なかったが、DVDにはDOLBY DIGITAL 5.1 SURROUNDで録音された同じ楽曲が入っている。これをサラウンドで聴いたときには、鳥肌が立ってしまった。まるで私の目の前に５台のピアノが広がっておかれているような錯覚を感じ、それぞれのピアノが主張し合いながらも、楽曲全体の構成はびくとも揺らいでいない。個人個人のテクニックや表現力を超えた、血がつながった兄弟姉妹でしか表現できないような、密着度が、そこにはある。だからこそ、通常のステレオ録音では表現できない部分をデジタル・サラウンドでは嗅ぎ取ることが出来たのだろう。

テレビでこの人達の演奏を見て、ぜひこの演奏をCDで聞きたいと思い購入しました。
商品到着後、早速音出しをしてみたところ、???、なんで?と感じてしまいました。
非常に音が悪い。プレーヤーが変になったのかと思い違うシステムで聞いてみても音が悪い。
あまりの音の悪さにものすごい衝撃を受けてしまいました。今時こんな録音があるのかと。
せっかくの演奏もこの音では聞こうという気になれません。とても残念です。
