布施明が80年代後半に在籍していたコロムビア時代のベスト。「シクラメンのかほり」等代表曲を収録しているが、１~１３，２０はレコード会社移籍後の再録なので、いわゆる懐メロを期待して買うとアレンジの違い等で違和感を感じるだろうから要注意。懐メロを聞きたくて買うならキングレコードレーベルのものを。曲１４~１９はコロムビア在籍時のシングル曲。映画「姉妹坂」の主題歌１５や自身出演したが半年で打ち切られた（？）お昼のニュース番組のエンディング曲の１９など。個人的には小粋な作品１４や繊細かつ力量感あふれるボーカルがグッとくる１６（初ＣＤ化）が楽しめた。響鬼主題歌「少年よ」のヒットへのレコード会社の便乗商売にも思えるが、当時のＣＤに比べて音質も向上している。布施ファンそして彼のボーカルに魅せられた人ならマストアイテムだろう。２０年近く前の音源のこのＣＤを聞いて、「少年よ」を聞くとまさにアンチ・エイジング！５８歳になる今も衰えぬその歌声と卓越した表現力に改めて偉大さを感じることができるだろう。

私は３０代後半でそれまでほとんど布施明さんのうたは知らなかったのですが最近テレビで「霧の摩周湖」を熱唱している姿を見てとりこになりました。まずは手っ取り早く図書館に行ってＣＤを借りて聞いてみましたが古い曲は聴きなれなくてどうも受け入れることが難しかったようです。しかし試聴サイトで探した結果この「布施明ベストコレクション２０」はセルフカバーで歌い方もアレンジも今風となっており聴きやすかったのでさっそく購入しました。セクシーで伸びやかで情感たっぷり。このＣＤを聴いてからは古い音源のものを聴いても受け入れられ両方楽しむことが出来ました。アレンジはシンプルですがよくまとまっていて淡く繊細な雰囲気になっていると思います。布施明の魅力が充分味わえます。

布施明はトンデモなく歌がうまい。それは周知の事実だ。
なのになんだ，このアレンジは。
「霧の摩周湖」のニセ物のストリングス。
「シクラメンのかほり」の2コーラス目からの調子はずれなキーボード。
「君はバラより美しい」のファミコンのBGMなみのシンセ。

せっかくボーカルがいいのに，バッキングがそれを台無しにしてしまっている。
アレンジャー，誰ですか？このアルバム。
「本当に」うまい歌にはぜひ生楽器を使って欲しい。
溶けて滑り出しそうなストリングスや，甘い音色のクラリネット・ソプラノサックス。
素朴でありながら輝いた音色のアコースティックギター。
打ち込みではなく，人の鼓動が感じられるドラムス。

布施明にはこんな楽器が似合うと思っています。
