   スウィング・ジャズの黄金時代を築いたクラリネット奏者ベニイ・グッドマンの半生を描いた音楽自伝映画。少年時代からクラリネットを吹き始めたベニイ（スティーヴ・アレン／本人にそっくり）が、やがて「キング・オブ・スウィング」の照合を得て、1938年のカーネギーコンサートを成功させるまでを描いている。そもそもは『グレン・ミラー物語』の大成功に刺激されて製作されたものだが、ベニイがまだ健在だったこともあって、ゴシップ的な部分は本人に遠慮して巧みに避け、むしろ彼の音楽をたっぷり聴かせることに重点を置きながら作られている。監督はヴァレンタイン・デイヴィス。テディ・ウィルソンやライオネル・ハンプトンなど名代ジャズメンの共演など、サウンドトラックに関してはマニアにとって伝説的存在にもなっている作品である。（的田也寸志）

「伝記」でありながら、堅苦しくなく「耳」から音楽とともに、体に効いてくる映画です。
「SWING GIRLS」でビッグバンドの存在とSWINGのおもしろさを知った人に、是非見てもらいたい。
きっと自分の身近で耳にする音楽が、SWINGであったこと、そして「キング・オブ・スウィング」と呼ばれたベニイ・グッドマンの作品であったことを知ることができるはずです。
