   日本けん玉協会の規定に忠実に基いて制作された、競技用けん玉。「けん」と「皿胴」がはずれる構造となっており、年齢、技量に応じて糸の長さが調節できるようになっている。また、糸の取り付け穴が左右2か所にあるので、きき腕に応じて使い分けができる。材料に天然の桜の木を使用、いろいろな技が掲載された解説書付き。
   糸の長さが長すぎると、技が難しくなるので、糸の調整は重要だ。ちなみに、級・段位受審、大会等で使用するけん玉の糸の長さは、大人38cm以上、子供（小学生以下）35cm以上でなけらばならないというルールがある。また、左ききの場合は、小皿が右、大皿が左にある状態で糸を通すよう、調整する必要がある。

けん玉は小学生時代にやった以来。しかも、おもちゃのけん玉で。
いや、もちろんけん玉それ自体がおもちゃであるのは当たり前。当時使ったやつは作りが安っぽいという意味でおもちゃだったということ。木綿糸が切れ易かったり、絡まり易かったり、皿の形状もまちまちだったり、軸が微妙にずれていたり、今思えばだが、子供に扱い易いものでは無かった。
もちろん自分の技術や練習の持続力の無さもあったが、結局上達せずにすぐに飽きた覚えがある。

それが、30を過ぎたいい大人になり、TV番組でのプロの技に魅了され、即アマゾンで購入。「競技用けん玉」！？そんなモノがあるとは思いもしなかった。
使ってみると、おっ、手に馴染む。綺麗に乗る。さすが競技用。重さといい、大きさといい、丁度いいバランス。$N$少し続けていると、短時間で案外上手くなった。プロの技には程遠いが、こんなに簡単だったっけ？と思わせた。
弘法筆を選ばずと言うが、子供にこそ「本物」を持たせたい。

商品の耐久性を星3つにしたが、それは商品特性上、やればやるほど、カチャカチャぶつけるので、玉や皿部分に傷がつく。木製だし。でもそれは練習で使い込んだという勲章でもある。

このけん玉は日本けん玉協会の公認する競技用のけん玉です。現在、公認けん玉として認められているのはこの「新さくら」の他に「新富士」「TK16master」「夢元」だけです。大会や認定会などはこれらのけん玉でないと参加できません。
競技用ということで普通のけん玉に比べ格段に技がしやすいです。特に段技など高度な技には競技用けん玉は不可欠です。
さて「新さくら」ですが、原型は「さくら」という旧公認けん玉です。日本けん玉協会の基準が変わり、「新さくら」はより扱いやすく改良されています。
「新さくら」は他の公認けん玉は145グラム程度なのに対して130グラム程度と軽いのが特徴です。また皿の溝が深めです。個人的にはもしかめに適したけん玉だと思います。
また「新さくら」の玉は硬く、皿に乗ったときに独特の音がします。硬いので他のけん玉より傷が付きにくいです。
けん玉の技は千を越え、老若男女誰でも楽しむことができます。昔やったひとも初めての人も「新さくら」で楽しんでみてはいかがでしょうか。
