非常に残念で悲しいことに、1980年にこのアルバム発表後、Johnは銃弾に倒れ帰らぬ人となってしまいました。

そんな事件が思い入れを強くしているかもしれませんが、改めて聴いても、このアルバムは、Johnの最高傑作であると私は思います。
最初の頃は、一曲おきにあるYokoの曲を飛ばしながら聴きたくなる衝動に駆られましたが、今となってはJohnが愛したYokoの曲もこのアルバムを構成要素であると思い、飛ばさずに聴いています。

"Starting Over"、"Woman"など、美しいメロディとJohnの歌声を重ね合わせられている名作を、このアルバムで味わってください。

ジョンの曲とヨーコの曲が交互に入っています。
ジョンの作品「Starting Over」「Woman」など佳曲揃いです。
が、ヨーコの曲は相変わらずどうしようもないですねぇ。ぶちこわしです。どうにかならないんですかね。
ちなみにジャケット写真は篠山紀信が撮影しています。

　これは、おじさんの戯言として聴いてほしいのですけど、この作品が１９８０年１２月、僕の手元に届き、ＤＥＮＯＮのプレーヤーで針を落としたときの衝撃は、なんともいえないものでした。
　「House Hasband」と称して家にこもってショーン君の世話をしているという情報ばかりが流れてきて、ジョンは引退したのかと思ったくらいだったのです、当時は。そこにいきなり「Starting over」。僕なりの理解では、「さあ、もう一度はじめるぞ！」であったのです。ジョンが戻ってきた!
　次の衝撃は、ヨーコの歌が一曲おきに入っていて、正直うざったかった（当時はこういう表現はなかったけど）。
　ともあれ、ジョンが始めるぞ！と思った瞬間テレビでジョンが狙撃されたと報じているのを見て、本当にショックを受けた。朝まで、友人たちと語り合い、飽かずにジョンの思い出を語った。

　そんな、思い出のぎっしり詰まった、アルバムです。
　
　ジョンの最期の作品として、皮肉な第一曲でした。
