この毒々しくケバケバしい、やけにポップなROCKは、ハマる人にはハマります。全くひねくれておらず、理解しやすいメロディーです。私はグラムロックも好きなのですが、いい感じでその要素が出ています。なんとなく覚束ないギター（ごめんなさい！）も切なさ倍増です。そう、このアルバムはちょっと切なくなるのです。発売された８２年アメリカの、ロック好き少年の青春ストーリー映画のサントラに絶対入れたいです。

　ＬＡのローカル・バンド、ロンドンを脱退したニッキー・シックス（ベーシスト）を中心に、同じくＬＡのクラブ・シーンで活動していたスイート１９のトミー・リー（ドラマー）、元ヴェンデッタのミック・マーズ（ギタリスト）、ロック・キャンディのヴィンス・ニール（シンガー）の４人で１９８１年に結成されたモトリー・クルーが、自主レーベル「レザー」レコードより発表した、２曲入りシングル、「スティック・トゥ・ユア・ガンズ」／「トースト・オブ・ザ・タウン」（ライブ会場でステージから観客にフリスビーのように投げて渡していたとか。）に続けてリリースした実質上のデビュー・アルバム。予算はたったの７，０００ドル、しかもレコーディング・ミックスの期間はこれ又たったの７日間という悪条件にもかかわらず、マイケル・ワグナーをエンジニアに迎えてレコーディングされた本作にはバンドを象徴する、「猥雑でケバケバしいＬＡにたむろするバッド・ボーイズ」を地でいくバンドに相応しいグラマラスで荒削りながらもダイアモンドの原石を垣間見るロックン・ロールが奇跡的に詰め込まれている。ハード・ドライヴィングな「ライブ・ワイヤー」、パワー・ポップの先駆けとも言える「パブリック・エネミー・＃１」、パンキッシュながらもポップのケレン味に満ちた、「ピース・アブ・ユア・アクション」、「テイク・ミー・ザ・トップ」、そしてメロウで美しく、昨年のツアーではセットリストに復活した「オン・ウィズ・ザ・ショウ」をはじめ、アルバム全編に散りばめられたヴァラエティの富む楽曲群からは、既にバンドの基本スタイルが確率されていることが窺える。結成直後から精力的にライブをこなしていたこともあって、本作は自主製作盤ながらも２万枚以上の好セールスを記録し、メジャーへの階段を上るきっかけとなった。
