こういう歌詞は誰も書かないから、これをPOPSシングルに成立せしめる力量が凄いですよね。そして曲途中で挟むセリフも「僕と彼女と週末に」など昔から培ってきた手法だけに、説得力あります。
ギターのリフも、“俺の初恋はR&R”というこの時期のテーマに見合う、いかにも正統派のロックらしさを感じさせます。

で、やはり歌詞ですよ、この曲は。いきなり“君”が安モーテルで手首切って、かけつけた“俺”がベッドで眠ってる彼女に話し掛けるような展開がPOPSになっちゃうんですから。「今も君がこの世界に生きていることに THANK YOU 本気だぜ」や「なぜ俺なんだよ まァ嬉しかったけどサ」これをロックにのせてさらっと歌うカッコヨサは、若手にはできない業だと思います。

この曲が収録された「My First Love」でのもう一つのテーマは「父性」。この曲の主人公の立場は父親ではないけれど、どこか男らしさが感じられますよね。ロックだからか、浜省の歌い方によるからか、とにかくカッコイイです。

７／６に発売された浜田省吾さんの『My First Love』からのリカットシングルです。『My First Love』を持っている人は「Thank　you」はもうどんな曲かご存知だと思いますがアルバム未収録の新曲「あの娘は誰」と1981年に発売された「ラストショー」のカップリング曲「さよならの前に」を新たにレコーディングしたものがカップリング曲として収録されてます。「さよならの前に」を持っている人でも新たにレコーディングされてるということなので音なども良くなっているのでは？と思います。ちなみに私の海外の友人に「thank you」を聴かせたら”I’m flattered.why me?”（英語詞もついてたので）の部分に感動したといってました笑）「thank you」の歌の中には浜田さんのセリフの部分も入ってます。”I’m flattered.why me?”の部分もセリフです笑）もちろんこれは友人用に英語の詞を送ったものなので本家本元はちゃんと日本語で喋ってます笑）久々にこの曲の中では浜田さんがセリフを言ってるという所が聴き所です。詞の内容的には重いのだけど曲が軽快な感じに創られてるので聴きやすくいい感じなのです~^^クールです☆しびれます♪

浜田省吾さんは自殺者の多い世の中憂いを持ったのかも知れません。今の日本は自殺者が年間数万人。もしかしたらそれに歯止めをかけようと浜田省吾さんなりのメッセージがこめられているのかもしれない。その視点で耳を傾けると彼のやさしさの深さに感動します。ストーンズ風イントロ（大好きです！）、軽快なメロディ、洗練されアンサンブル、台詞つきで語呂もいい歌詞。自殺予備軍の人ばかりではなく多くの人がきっと励まされることでしょう。
