   このスコットランドのデュオの3rdアルバムは、彼らのもっとシューゲイザー的でゴージャスなアルバムだ。ここで初めて、アコースティックとエレクトロニックの楽器がふたりの風景にとけ込み、フォー・テットやM83のようなアーティストの作品に近いものとなっている。だが、彼らのビートは複雑で、一風変わっていて、水中を漂うような質感は、間違いなくボーズ・オブ・カナダのものだ。奇妙で混乱して、心地よくて異質な曲。たとえば「Dayvan Cowboy」はスローで少々憂鬱なサイケデリア。曲が2/3過ぎるまで、ドラムは鳴らないほどだ。催眠術にかかったような、アナログ・シンセが鳴る「Farewell Fire」はスペース・サウンドの先駆者クラスターがなくした曲のようだ。ドラッグがもはや効かない時に聞く音楽。安っぽい類似品よりずっと確かなアルバムだ。衝撃的な曲に「Oscar See Through Red Eye」があり、これは夜更けに物憂げに踊るにはぴったりの曲だが、アルバムの大部分はゆったりと腰を降ろして聞くのにふさわしい。（Mike McGonigal, Amazon.com）

１ｓｔでは日の出が見える高山地域からの牧歌的エレクトロニカを、
２ｎｄはアナログシンセで宇宙っぽいシーケンスを打ち出していたとすれば、
今作は山の麓の村に戻ってきてくれた感じだ。
生音のフレーズが増えたことによってジャーマンロック、
ハルモニアやカンなどの７０年代の音質により近づいたと思う。
聴いたことのあるような（気にさせる）メロディーを紡ぎだす才能は健在だった。
イギリス、アメリカ、日本それぞれに文化的な差異があるはずなのに、
ＢＯＣはそれぞれのノスタルジアへと送ってくれる。
凄まじいことだ。

前作ジオガディよりも、アルバム全体の統一感があり、
シンセサイザーの使い方は過去のTwoismやMusic has the right to children
の雰囲気寄りのサウンドになっています。
あえて難をいえば曲のバラエティは多彩ではありませんが
個人的には定番チルアウトものとして
長く付き合っていけそうな
まったり広がるサウンドは前作ジオガディより好みです。

また今作で大きく変化している気がするのは
ギター素材が全編に渡って大きくフィーチャーされていることです。
かといってよく比較される、My Bloody Valentineのような
壮大でしびれるディストーションサウンドとかではなく、
さわやかで空間をさりげなく演出しコード感を強調するような
紛れもないBoards of Canadaの音といえるのではないでしょうか。

それと不思議なサンプル素材達はどこで見つけてくるのか、
どのような音処理をしているのか、
ざらついたダークな存在感がとても気持ちよく、
これらも隠れた彼らの個性となっています。

Boards of Canadaは多くのリミックスワークをこなして、
良作がとても多いのですが、興味のある方は
clouddead(クラウデッド）のdead dogs twoの
リミックスを聞いてみてください。これも必聴です。

自分は、海から海面に上がってゆく夢を見ているようなイメージを連想しました。
友人は小学校の時高尾山からみた朝焼けを思い出したそうです。
このジャンル、作風が似てしまうのは仕方がないことですが
ＢＯＣは似て非なるもの。
このゆらゆら感はちょっと独特です。
水の膜を通して過去を覗いているような。
それぞれのトラックがみなさんの人生のメインテーマになること請け合いです。
いや素晴らしい。
