YNQのシリーズは作品を重ねるごとに完成度が高まっており、
今年発売予定の新作にも期待しています。
この作品はブルーノートから出された”SHADES OF BLUE”が更に
進化したとも言える素晴らしい出来。ジャズと７０年代のファンク
を元にしつつ、完璧に独自のヒップホップに昇華されてます。
一曲一曲コンパクトにまとまっており、フリージャズの要素を
追求したYNQの中でも起承転結がはっきりしていて特に聴きやすい。
FUNKYと銘打っているだけあり、テンポの速い曲中心。
ドラムの分厚いベースラインの格好良さは特筆もの。
ただ激しいだけでなく、程よくメロディが練りこまれているのも良い。
ハイペースな作品のリリースの最中であっても、マンネリを一切感じさせません。
MADLIBは「意図的に作り出したラフな感じ」が批判される事があるけれど、
ここまで徹底的にされるともはや清々しい感じさえあります。

相変わらずなmadlibの作品です。つまりお洒落なんだけど狂ってるって意味です。とくに３曲目の情緒豊かな(多分、フェンダーローズの)音色は一聴の価値は十分にあります。その他のトラックも素晴らく,STONES THROW傘下の再発レーベルNOW-AGAINの曲をmadlibが再解釈しなおしたかんじです。そういったファンクものが好きなひとも、そうでない人も十分に楽しめる作品です。

Yesterdays New Quintet の２ｎｄアルバム。madlibは間違いないと言われてはやうん年。今回も間違いない仕上がりになっております。Sound Directionsって言う別名がついてるけど、Yesterdays New Quintetですな、これは。Funky Side of っていうだけあって、１ｓｔにあったメローな感じなトラックはないけれど、ジャズを基調にファンク、ヒップホップなどの要素が入っていて、１ｓｔの流れでの２ｎｄとして聞けました。これも、hip hopなんだよなー。
