疾走曲が熱をつくり、続く包容曲が内側からじわりと身体を温めます、それが繰返され螺旋状に聴き手の高揚が昇りつめて行くような作品でした。疾走する歌達は非常にロック色が強く、バンドのグルーヴィなうねりと桜井氏のシャウトが重なってゆくと、一気に熱風が巻き起こるような場面が多々出てきます。特に今作では声の限り叫ぶボーカルが印象的ですね。一方バラードたちは疾走曲が作った熱をほぐし、こころに素朴な温かみを灯す曲が多いです。でもその素朴味こそ素晴らしく（4「僕らの音」など）、ラヴソングとしての世界観がシンプルに止揚されており、巷のそれとは全く違う領域を感じさせます。5「and I love you」も一つ先の迫真性がありますよね。これらに綴られた精神性からは『I LOVE U』のテーマが少しずつ様々なかたちでみえてきそうでした。

全曲どれも大粒で大変な充実です。また流れとしても7「CANDY」や9「Sign」のようなラストを飾ってもよい曲がまだ中盤にあり、そこから更に10「Door」や11「跳べ」で最後まで加熱・加速するエナジーを途絶えさせない構成は、凄みすら覚えました。特に10はゴスペルのようでゴスペルではなく、明らかにロックの魂で叫ぶのみに近い内容なのですが、そのシンプルさがむしろ今作の熱い曲達を最大公約数で物語るようです。

最後を任された12「隔たり」13「潜水」。注目すべきはやはり歌詞でした。先ずは12。男女の隔たりは不思議なもので、限りなく相手と近くなっていても、何故か遠くに感じてしまうこともあります。でもこの曲はそんな男女間に横たわる溝を超え、相手を感じ心を通わせる幸福を綴ります。当に“ONE LOVE”を具現化したような曲であり『I LOVE U』の世界観に相応しい12曲目でした。一方13。生きてる実感を歌詞を読み解く左脳より右脳で感じ取る曲。こころの奥で相手と繋がる瞬間、LOVEの深みに出会えるのかもしれません。

この作品は一番好きなアルバムではないし、最高傑作とも思わない。
だけど一番すごいアルバムだと思う。と同時に、変化の始まり、「It's A Wonderful World」以降の大きなターニングポイントであり、次のアルバムへの通過点であるとも思う。

このアルバムのテーマは「愛」。だけど全体の統一感はない。それはおそらく恋愛感情から人間愛レベルまで幅広く歌われているからだと思う。初期の頃の様な淡い恋心「靴ひも」と、深い愛情「隔たり」が共存しているのも歪さを強調している。しかし同じ「愛」がテーマのアルバム「KIND OF LOVE」とは全く違い、さらにそれを未来や衝動など形のないものでコーティングしたので、いっそう巨大なものになってしまった。
つまり、今までで最も壮大なアルバムなっているのだ。そのため前作「シフクノオト」のような距離で聴こうとするとピントが合わず、全体像が見えないのではないだろうか。まだ自分もまだはっきり見えてない。

ミスチルだから発表できたようなアルバム。メッセージでなく叫びに近い。ある種「深海」以上に目に見えないすごい力を持っている。

今回のアルバムはボーカル桜井さんの声を前面に出していると思います。
そのためか前回シフクノオト等に比べると大人しく感じ、ポップなイメージのミスチルしか受け入れられない人には酷評になるのかもしれません。
しかしミスチルのアルバムは毎回出されるごとにテーマというかイメージががらりと変わっていて、今回はシンプルな「ＬＯＶＥ」のカタチがとても良く現れている１枚だと感じました。
聴けば聴くほど味が出るというか、じっくり聴いて頂きたいアルバムですね。
人其々感性は違うものなので１度自分の耳で聴いて下さい。
ミスチルという音楽の透明さ、そして今回のアルバムの聴きどころでもあるボーカルの声の威力をぜひ感じてほしいと思います！
個人的には僕らの音・ＣＡＮＤＹが特に好きですね。
