プラスチックス解散後、中西俊夫とチカのふたりで結成されたMELONのファーストアルバム。スネークマンショーの桑原茂一をプロデューサーにむかえ、今は亡きAlfaレコードから発売されたこれは、非常にコンセプト色の強いアルバム。そのコンセプトとはタイトルからもわかるとおり、日本、そして核の脅威。
静謐な狂気を思わせるアレンジメントに彩られたこのアルバムは、驚異的なクオリティを保っている。
参加ミュージシャンは高橋幸宏、細野晴臣他

収録曲の一つ、「HONEY DEW」。完成したばかりのこの曲をチカに聴かせると、彼女はホテルの部屋で泣いたという。

今回のイシューは紙ジャケだそうだが、アナログで発売当時の箔押しは再現されるのかな？
さらにいえば、確かアナログ盤には桑原茂一の解説がついていたように思うのだが、Alfa発売のインナーには省略されている（記憶違いだったらすみません）。
またボーナストラック３曲とのことだが、この時期のレアトラックは同時発売の「新宿ブレードランナー」に収録されるはずなので、何が入るか楽しみ。

当時、ＹＭＯと土屋昌巳をこよなく愛し、尊敬していた私は、「こんなバンドを待っていた」という感じだった。
土屋昌巳のギターはやはり、かなり唸っている。
このジャケットもデザインとしては魅力的で、ロシア語っぽいロゴの使い方に斬新さを感じたものだった。ただ、ＭＥＬＯＮの二人はメディアに登場してこなかったので、北海道に住んでいる私としては、歌詞カードの写真を見るしかなかったのだが、ファッションはダサい。北海道はご存知の通り、夕張メロンの産地だが、そのイメージでいってしまって、北海道人は私としては、この二人のファッションに斬新さを感じることができなかった。

ボーナストラックは「HONEY DEW」「DO YOU LIKE JAPAN?」がライブ録音されているもの。

何年かぶりに聞きました。再販を楽しみにしていたので倍嬉しかったです。中西さんのボーカルもカッコいいですが、土屋昌巳のアレンジが全面に醸し出している所が土屋ファンにも聞いて欲しいです。
特に最近のどれも似たようなヒット曲に飽きた人、人とは違った感性を持っている方、ファッショナブルな方は是非！聞いてみて下さい。
