　‘82年発表。大滝詠一とか角松敏生など洋楽に傾倒したアーティストを昔から好んで聞いていた僕の中では当時から気になっていたアルバムだが，どういうわけか縁遠くこれまで入手出来ずにいた。
　四半世紀も経つと多少は古ぼけて聞こえるのでは・・・と思ったが，抜けるような青空のジャケットと同様に今聞いても瑞々しいサウンドが随所に散りばめられている。
　何よりも印象に残ったのが冒頭を飾るタイトル曲「Awakening（覚醒）」での透明感のあるピアノ・ソロ。美しくも切ないクリスタルな響きは松居慶子のピアノにも似て胸に染みる。２曲目以後は真夏のビーチでまどろんでいるかのようにゆったりとしたグルーヴが続き，「もう少しアップテンポでも・・・」と思うところもあるが，Wendy Matthewsをヴォーカルに起用したことが功を奏しており，キュートで適度にソウルフルな彼女の歌声が爽やかな躍動感を与え，バランスが取れている。ブラコン感覚のメロウな「Only Love Affair」，オリエンタル調の「It Isn’t Easy」などがその好例だが，秀逸は「Blue And Moody Music（Wendy’s Version）」だろう。爽やかな躍動感にあふれたメロウでスムースなアップテンポ。佐藤博自身が歌うオリジナル・バージョンよりも数段良い。本場のAOR／ブラコンでもこんな良い曲にはそうそうお目にかかれない。
　全曲をほとんど佐藤博本人１人で手がけた「手作り」のアルバムながら，限りなく本場のAOR／フュージョン／ブラコンに近いサウンドを再現しているのも素晴らしい。

とても82年の作品だとは思えません。
今聞いてもとても新鮮です。
とてもクオリティの高い大好きなアーチストです。
今後もどんどん再販してほしい、みんなに聞いて欲しい。
と改めて感じてしまいます。
お勧めですよ！

　これは82年に発売されたものの再発盤。今までオークションなどで高値がついていましたが、リマスターで蘇りました。斎藤さんは元祖オタク？とでもいえるのでしょうか？70年代に渡米し西海岸でランディ・クロフォード・クルセイダーズなどとのセッションを経験し帰国し、宅録でこのCDを完成させました。3曲のインストとボーカルは全部英語です。1は、プロローグでまさに語りかけるようなピアノインスト。2は、少しエフェクトした佐藤さんのボーカルと女性ボーカルのWENDY　MATTHEWSさんがゆったりとした曲調の中で調和した海をのんびりながめて聴きたい名曲。3はよりしっとり曲でちょっとYMOの高橋幸宏さんのようなエフェクトをしたエレガンスな曲です。4WENDY　MATTHEWSのボーカルがメインでミディアムメロウなバックと絡み合って、夜のドライブに最適な曲。5では、シンセサイザーとピアノのインスト。6は、佐藤さんのアルバムにはお決まりのBEATLESナンバーのカバー。初期の代表曲をゆったりとした南国調のリズムで展開しています。鳥山雄司さんがフェンダーで参加。7ではまたまたスローでバラード調を佐藤さんとWENDY　MATTHEWSのボーカルのDUETが包み込むゆったりとした時間が包み込んでくれる夜に海をみながらグラスを傾けて聴くのにぴったりの曲。8またまたWENDY　MATTHEWSのしっとりしたボーカルにエフェクトかけまくりの佐藤さんのボーカルが絡み合うちょっとチャイニーズテイストが混ざった曲調にとけ込み、明るく哀愁を漂わせます。9のタイトル曲ではまたまたインスト。10では、夏を彷彿させる明るいナンバー。なんたって山下達郎氏がFENDER　TELECATERで参加し、達郎サウンドを披露しています。11でもまたまた達郎氏が参加。WENDY　MATTHEWSのボーカルと絡み合うリズムギターがまさに達郎サウンドを象徴しています。
