ブレッカー・ブラザーズがまたしても復活を果たした。この再結成に小躍りするファンがどれほどいるかは想像するまでもないが(もちろん筆者もそう!)、新装リユニオンの感もあった前回と違い、本作は旧知の有名曲も含めた集大成的垂涎ライヴ。なんと言ってもたまらないのが、タイトル・トラックにもなった冒頭の(1)と(2)。75年のデビュー作に収められた2曲を頭にもってきたところには彼らの自信と意気込みを見る思いがする。そしてデビュー作に名を連ねたウィル・リーとピーター・アースキンのコンビネーションの確かさ、素晴らしさには驚かされた。リーの地を這うファンクネス・ベースは凄みを増し、アースキンの正確無比な疾走感も依然衰えを知らず、さらにはヴィンス・メンドーサ指揮のWDRビッグバンドによって厚みも増した。そんな中でランディ&マイケル・ブレッカーが燃えないはずがなく、二人は快調に飛ばしてゆく。ハードコア・フュージョンの雄を再認識させるに十分のライヴだ。 (渡辺昌美) --- 2005年12月号

名義はRANDY BRECKER W/ MICHAEL BRECKERになってますが、
実質、BRECKER BROTHERS復活BIG BAND VERSION。

2003年のドイツのジャズ・フェスでのライヴを収録したもの。

ヴィンス・メンドーサ指揮のWDRビッグバンドによる分厚いホーンが加えられ、
デビュー当初のメンバーだったウィル・リーのベースと
WRのメンバーだったピーター・アースキンが支えるリズム隊。

もう、アレンジも演奏もかっこよ過ぎるその上に
ランディ＆マイケルが縦横無尽に吹き捲って、熱いソロをブチかまします。

収録曲もBRECKER BROTHERSからリユニオン時代の2曲も含め6曲、
ランディのソロから3曲、ランディの新曲が1曲と
おいしい選曲です。

デビュー盤に収録された超代表曲＆当タイトル曲である“SOME SKUNK FUNK”からスタートして、
リユニオン後の代表曲“SONG FOR BARRY”で締め括るという
BBファンにはたまらない流れですね。

リユニオン後、2度ほどライヴを見ていますが、
その時の感動が蘇ってきます。

このメンバーで来日してくれれば最高なんですが、
多分無理なんでしょうが。。。

映像もちゃんとあるみたいなので、是非作品として発売してほしいですね！

兄弟について多くは知りませんが、B.B.再結成後のアルバム2枚が大好きで購入しました。

ある意味ハチャメチャで道を外していますが、決めるべき所はビシッと決め、知的でお洒落なのは見事と言う他ありません。選曲も音数のやたら多いアップテンポのものから、ランディーのロングトーンが実に美しいスローなものまで幅広いです。オーソドックスなビッグバンドに近い編成で、アレンジは綿密、一糸乱れぬアンサンブルからリハーサルを入念に行ったことも窺わせます。知名度の高いリズム隊への注目が集まっていますが、むしろローブラス（バリトンサックスとバストロンボーン）がバリバリと（駄洒落ではありません）地割れするようなスゴイ音を出しており、ブラス好きにはこたえられません。

買った後に知りましたが、本作はマイケルが不治の病を発表した後の兄とのライブで、2年後の今年1月に57歳で永眠したのは記憶に新しいところです。合掌。
