言わずと知れたフリー・ジャズの大物であるA.アイラー(sax)なのですが、本作('68年作)を耳にしたその筋以外の方は、多分、思いっ切り誤解される事でしょう。飛び出してくる音はいわゆるR&B/SOULテイスト溢れる楽曲。ですので、"これがA.アイラーか、、成る程、、"と思われないことが大切かと。
ともあれ、60s末の混沌とした時代に即した形で自らの音楽をここまで変化させる事を厭わなかったA.アイラーのマインドに惹かれる、というのが個人的な見解であります。
そもそも私が本作を知ったのはある種の紹介本に掲載されていた"ジャズロックの走り云々"といった一文でした。勿論、A.アイラーという名前が(フリー)ジャズのコンテキストで語られるプレーヤーであり、"聴いてみたいけど、大ハズレしそう、、、"という心配もありました(^^; ですが、流れ出してきた音に嫌悪することはありませんでした。まぁ、ジャズロックというよりは先に書きましたようにR&B/SOUL色の方が強いとは思うのですが、何れ、問題はありません(^^;
＃それもそのはず、B.パーディーがdsに座っていますもの(^^;
乳母心ながら、[1]が流れ出した途端に"挫折"なさらないように(^^;。"だめだぁ〜"と思われる方は無理せず[2]からお聴きになるのも良いかと。
＃天国のA.アイラーだって怒りはしませんよ、きっと、、

68年の異色作。
リリース当時とても批判された作品らしいでしが
ブラック・ミュージックとして聴けばコレほど面白い作品もなく
アイラーの力を抜いた遊び感覚が楽しめる佳作だと思います

電気楽器を大胆に取り入れただけでなく、
ソウルシンガーズまで参加して、
まるっきりのＲ＆Ｂを繰り広げている。
「フリー」からも自由になろうとしたのか
人を食った感じではありますが
アイラーの音楽はジャズというより
黒人音楽の伝統の上に成り立つフリー・ミュージックという解釈
もこの作品でできる。

なじみやすいサウンドだしフリーキーなサックスは
健在でとっても楽しいですよ！
