   時は14世紀のイギリス。騎士しか参加できない馬上槍試合に身分を偽って出場し、ちゃくちゃくと勝ち進んでいく平民ウィリアム（ヒース・レジャー）とその仲間たちの恋と青春、そして闘いの日々を描いた、スポ根時代甲冑活劇の快作。
   音楽になぜかクィーンなど往年のロック曲を使用しているが、そのミスマッチ感覚が逆に中世ヨーロッパの空気感とも奇妙に融合しており、新鮮でおもしろい。
 『カンタベリー物語』など中世英国文学の大家として知られるジョフリー・チョーサー（ポール・ベタニー）も登場し、狂言回し的にドラマを盛り上げてくれているが、それ以上に時代設定も何のそので、黒太子エドワードがお忍びで試合に出るなど、ユニークなシーンも満載である。（的田也寸志）

おもしろいという話は聞いてましたが、期待を大きく超えました。話はまあ、そう深くないし、けっこうあっさり窮地を脱する感じはしますが、コメディーでもあるのでまあいいかなと。あまり知られてないけどヒース　レジャーは魅力的。撮影当時２１才ということでしたが、笑顔がかわいいし演技もうまい。最近変わった映画ばかり出るけど、こういう単純ヒーローが彼には合うと思います。

ロックの音楽を織り込んで、中世の娯楽を描く。
娯楽に酔いしれる人々の姿は、今も昔もかわらない。
だからこそ、ロックがこんなにもマッチする。
仲間や恋人、地位、何一つなかったものを、
一つ手にしては、ウィリアムは彼らしく生きていく。

人間ってこんな風に生きるのが、理想なのかなって、
思う人ばかりが登場して、なんだかちょっと、
ムカツクけれど、それをすべて許せてしまっている自分が、
最後にはそこにいる。
そんな映画です。

ちなみに、脇役が主役級に個性豊かで、最高なのも、魅力の一つ。

QUEENが好きで、騎士道物語が好きで、イギリスが好きで、イギリスの英語が好きで、ユーモアが好きな人は観ましょう。
エドワード黒太子と聞いて、ぐっとくる人にもお勧めです。チョーサーの名前を知っている人にも驚きがあるかもしれません。
途中で深く考えてはいけません。楽しくて、かっこよくて、ハッピーな映画です。衣装や武器など、凝っているところもいっぱいあります。同性愛に寛容なところと、微妙な下世話さまでがイギリスらしい感じがします。
