空き缶の周辺に斜めにへこみを作り、ひねりを加えつつ押し潰して小さくまとめるという方法は、以前テレビの生活情報系番組でやっていたのを見たことがあります。この製品はそれをサポートする器具です。
操作は2段階で、

1. まず缶を内筒の中に入れて押し込み、缶の周囲にへこみを作る
2. 次に缶を一旦取り出し、外筒に入れ直して上から内筒の底を当て押し潰す

1段階めはテコの原理が働くので、押し込む際にはそれほど力は要らないのですが、これを引き抜く時に内筒が固くはまってしまい力が要ります。外筒の縁にまるい切れ込みが2箇所あり、そこから内筒を指で持って引っぱり出すのですが、時々、下手をするとすべって爪でも剥がしそうなくらい固くはまってしまうことがあります。(100回近く使って、まだ剥がしたことはありませんが)
また、長い500mL缶は内筒の底までしっかり入れにくく、中途半端に入れた状態で押し込むと固く固くはまってしまって抜くのに相当難儀するので要注意です。(数回失敗しました)

次に2段階めでは、テコの原理もなにもなく、ただ体重をかけてつぶすしかありません。もちろん筒になっているのでまっすぐ押し込めるし、押し込むだけでちゃんとつぶれるのですが、できればテコの原理の応用などで、あまり力をかけずにつぶせるような仕掛けになっていたらもっと便利なのに…と思いました。(ただそうするとこのサイズでは収まらず、もっと大きい製品になってしまいそうですが)

手だけで潰すよりも楽なことは確かですし、特に500mLのロング缶は手作業だけだとなかなかきれいに潰せないので、ごみを減量してスッキリ出したい方なら使う意味は十分にあるとは思います。
ただできればもう一工夫二工夫して、力や手間をそれほどかけずに使える製品だったら…、というのが感想です。

追記：「1段階めで缶の周囲にへこみを作った後、引き抜く時に力が要る」と書きましたが、コツが分かりました。上から押し込む際、とにかく最後まで押し込むこと。一旦、底に当たったような感触があるのでそこからさらに、これ以上どう頑張っても押せないところまで押し込むのがコツです。そうすれば抜く時も力をあまり使わずに済みました。いずれにしても押す時の力なり体重なりは必要のようです。

思っていたよりも空き缶をにコンパクトに潰すことが出来ます。力は多少必要ですが。本体の収納サイズも500mL缶が一回り大きくなったくらいです。
価格から考えたら非常に良いのではないでしょうか。
もう少し力を入れなくても潰すことが出来たら星5つだと思います。

色やデザインがカワイイし、何よりも場所をとらないのが嬉しい。
問題は少し力が必要な事でしょうか・・・同じ道具を使っているのに、主人が潰すと私が潰すよりもコンパクトなんです。
それでも潰すのが楽しくて、「今日はどっちが潰す？」なんてのが毎晩の会話です。
