The album is a series of inspired encounters between Herbie Hancock and world-renowned musicians  including John Mayer, Sting, Trey Anastasio, Annie Lennox, Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan, Santana and Angelique Kidjo, Paul Simon, Christina Aguilera, Jonny Lang, Joss Stone, and Raul Midon. Herbie Hancock describes "Possibilities" this way: "This is a real collaboration that were doing here. Its all been decided at the session, a record without borders, woven like a tapestry with many colors. The possibilities are endless"

以前ハービーはジョニ・ミッチェルとプレイし、
そのジョニの歌声をテープに収めて友人のミュージシャンに聞かせたところ、誰もジョニと当てられなかった、という話が残っている。
今作は、ハービーのピアノをバックに、ジョン・メイヤー、アンジェリーク・キジョー、
クリステイーナ・アギレラ、ステイング、ポール・サイモンが自在に歌い、
サンタナやリオーネル・ルエケ、ラウル・ミドーンのギターが絡む超豪華なアルバムになっている。

ポール・サイモンが、あの７０年代の名曲"I Do it for you（君の愛のために）"をこんなにジャズっぽく歌うことが信じられない。別人だ。
クリスティーナ・アギレラが、まさに渾身のソウルフルな歌声を聞かせてくれる。
アギレラのこの歌声には本当に何回聞いてもマイッてしまう。
ラウル・ミドーンがスティビー・ワンダーのハーモニカで「心の愛」を歌う。
最高だ！

キラキラ光る宝石がいっぱい詰まった宝石箱を、Herbieからプレゼントされたようなものだ。

POPとかJAZZとか、そのプレイヤーのヒット・アルバムでカテゴライズされてしまって、多くのプレイヤーが、そこを出られなくなる。皮肉な話だ。
オネストで勇敢な心をもって集まったこのアルバム収録にあつまったPOP系のシンガー達を中心にして、新しい『可能性』が確かに確認できるすごいアルバム。

ハービーハンコックと聞いて、ジャズピアノのアルバムかと思うと面食らいますが、何も知らずに先入観を持たずに聴くと、何と心地よいアルバムかと思うでしょう。

ハンコックは良い感じで伴奏と間奏に徹しています。

１曲目は、天気の良い日曜の朝、クルマを流しているときにFMから流れてきたのですが、まさに気分爽快になりました。
アルバム通して聴いても、豊富なゲスト陣でいろんな方向に変化がついていて楽しめます。

それにしても、ハービーハンコックっていろんなことをする人なんですね。

大物ミュージシャンが若手＆実力派歌手をゲストに．．．なんてありきたりな企画モノかと思ってましたが、これは良い！
ハンコックがでしゃばり過ぎず、「歌伴」に徹した潔さがすごい！
共演者の魅力を最大限引き出しながら、いかにいつもと一味違った楽曲を作るか、というところを楽しんでる感じがします。
大人だなあ。

ポール・サイモン、スティング他のベテランは言わずもがな、クリスティーナ・アギレラは実力見せつけたし、
曲も提供したジョン・メイヤーの才能にはもう誰もケチがつけられないし、
ジョス・ストーンとラウル・ミドンには、改めて声の魅力に驚かされたし（ハンコックもほとんどお任せ）、
みんな自分のオリジナルアルバム以上に出来が良い気がします。

ハンコックのプロデューサーとしての才能が発揮されたアルバムだと思います。
