私の持っているマイ・ソングのCDは、それこそLPが擦り切れそうになるぐらい聴いた後に、CDに切り替えたのである。CDも数え切れないくらい聴いた。どの曲も美しい粒ぞろいの見事な演奏ばかりで、キースの諸作品の中で、ケルンコンサートとともに２大巨峰を形成する、奇跡的な作品だと私は思う。特にタイトル曲とCountryが好きだ。CountryでBaseがリードをとり、その後キースのピアノが入ってくる瞬間は筆舌に尽くし難い。大げさでなく、このような演奏を聴けるなんて、人生捨てたものではない、これまで生きてきてよかった、と前向きな気持ちにさせてくれます。そんな、キースたちからの素晴しい珠玉の贈り物です。

1977年の録音でキース・ジャレットがECMに残した最高傑作です。メンバーはサックスに「北欧のコルトレーン」ヤン・ガルバレク、ベースにパレ・ダニエルソン、ドラムにヨン・クリステンセンといういわゆる「ヨーロピアン・カルテット」という構成ですが、まったく同じメンバーとしては1973年のアルバム「ビロンギング」以来の4年ぶりの再会ということになります。

ジャレットとガルバレクという2人の巨匠が生み出すメロディーラインの美しさ、そして比類なきリリシズムと叙情性は、同じメンバーによる前作「ビロンギング」と比較すると格段に向上し、それにECMの名プロデューサー、アイヒャー氏の味付けがブレンドされた名曲の数々は、ため息がでるほどの魅力に満ちています。やや消化不足に感じられたジャレットに内包する内省性は、名手たちが生み出すメロディーによって確実に昇華され、聴く者の心を揺さぶるのです。特に4曲目「Country」で聴かれる2人が作り出すあまりにも美しすぎる音の世界は、ECMのみならず90年代のジャズシーンの中でベスト10には確実に入る名曲中の名曲です。かれこれ20年以上前から聴いていますが、いつも新鮮な気持ちにさせてくれます。この曲だけでも★５つを進呈したくなるほど。

しかし、ガルバレクほど組む相手によってまるで違う印象を与えるサックスプレイヤーってほかに見当たりませんね。

このアルバムはキース・ジャレットの作品ではあるが、ヤン・ガルバレクの作品としても素晴らしい出来栄えだ。この人のソプラノ・サックスを僕は氷のサックスと例えたい。氷といっても冷たいのでなく、氷のように強く美しいのだ。最初にこの人の「ウィッチ・タイ・ト」のサックスを聴いた時の感動は今も忘れられない。ジャレットのピアノも全アルバムで一番暖かい気がする。忘れる事ができない、何度も何度もこれからも聴くであろう名盤。
