心労が重なったり、必要以上にストレスが
たまって気分が滅入ってどうにもならない時、
何か大いなるものに抱かれて癒やされたいなんて
思ったりするものです。
私はそんな時にこのCDを聴きます。
1曲目から暖かく、とても粋で優しいボイスと
深いテナーサウンドに包まれ、ジーンと癒やされていきます。
落ち着いた音で鳴り響くベースとピアノのバッキング
も最高。生涯聴き続けるであろう一枚です。

コルトレーンのテナーが「バラッド」よりもより人間の声に聴こえてくるのは、ジョニー・ハートマンの歌声に見事に寄り添っているからでしょうか。「バラッド」と双璧です。ほっと一息つきたいときにこの一枚！なんていうと安っぽく聴こえてしまうかもしれないけれど、本当にいいです。名盤です。小林桂が子供の頃、最初にいいなァと思ったジャズがこれなんですってね。納得。

これは名盤であることはたしかで、この1作でハートマンが歴史に残るシンガーになったことは間違いない。しかし、ついでにいうと、実はマッコイタイナーのベストだといってみたい。反論があるとおもうけど、実はマッコイはコルトレーンとは少し違うジャズ感をもっていたはずだ。それはmy favourit thingsをきいてから、至上の愛をきいていて感じる。だんだん、２人の音楽の距離がはなれてきている。だから、それ以降、いっしょには演奏していない。その点、たしかに、このアルバムは、コルトレーンとハートマンなんだけど、ハートマンとマッコイが一番しっくりいっているように思えてならない。
you are too buatifullやLush lifeのソロなんて、コルトレーンとの時には聞けない良さだ。
