マーク・ノップラー率いるダイアー・ストレイツの6作目で大ヒットした作品。印象的なプロモビデオで大ヒットしたMoney for Nothingが出色の出来であることは確かですが、アルバムとして見たときにそれ以外の曲のレベルが高く、非常によくまとまっている作品です。マーク･ノップラーのボーカルは退廃的な雰囲気ですが、アルバム全体は明るくはないものの、むしろある種の優しさに満ちている感じです。これもマーク・ノップラーのライターおよびギタリストとしての才能ではないかと思います。チープな作品も多かった時代ですが、これは本物です。

自選、洋楽ベストワンアルバムがこれ、ブラザーズ・イン・アームスなのです。
およそ２０年前、このアルバムを聴いてから、
未だにこのアルバムのクオリティを越える作品に出会えていません。
独特の味のあるボーカルと決して出しゃばらないギター。
時に主役となるサックスなど、ナイトタイムにベストマッチな内容です。
ジャズっぽくならず、ギターロックを主張するクロスオーバーな大人のロックアルバムなのです。
当時、ＭＴＶでよく流れたマネー・フォー・ナッシング。
ゲストのスティングが叫ぶところが実に印象的でした。
ポップなウォーク・オブ・ライフもいい感じに弾けています。
しかしながら、このアルバムはヒットシングル以外が素晴らしい。
心癒される名曲の缶詰なのですよ。
８０’ｓの名盤として、洋楽の傑作として必ず押さえておきたい作品ですね！！
