12歳でデビューを飾ったカナダの少女のセカンド・アルバム。制作時は14歳。移ろいゆく年頃、明らかな変化がある。微妙な声変わり、そして全作のソングライティングに彼女自身が関わった。その分ケルト音楽の影は薄くなったが、成長期の少女の等身大の世界が広がる。

カナダから一昨年、若干12歳で発表したデビュー作が話題を呼び、北米でヒットしたアゼリン・デビソンの2作目。15歳になり、ジャケットでこちらを見つめる彼女のクリッとした大きな瞳にも、前作で得た自信やアーティストとして大きく成長したことを窺わせる強い光が宿り、聴く前から期待を抱かせてくれる。で、結果はどうなのかといえば、期待に違わぬどころか、それを上回る出来映えとなっている。前作はピーター・アッシャーがプロデュースし、彼女の地元ケープブレトンに息づくケルト音楽の要素を所々に盛り込んでいたが、本作ではアゼリン自身がすべての楽曲で作詞/作曲に関わり、シンガー・ソングライターとしての素質を見せている。まだ楽曲それ自体に個性の発露といえるものはないが、どの曲も爽やかで、少女らしさの中に時折大人びた表情を覗かせる可憐な歌声と相まって、清々しい聴き心地を与えてくれる。これでまだ15歳、どこまで伸びるのか本当に楽しみだ。 (飯塚達弘) --- 2005年09月号
