ドラッグ漬けの能天気な西海岸ヒッピーどもとそれを利用して取締りを強化しようとする権力（当時のカリフォルニア州知事はレーガン)の双方を皮肉った、初期ザッパの傑作・・・とか何とか言う前に、楽しいポップな唄の数々（歌詞は毒気に満ちているが）がとってもキュートで魅力的。
無論その一方で、ビートルズの「レボリューションNo.9」に影響を与えたとされるコラージュ作品や、カフカの短編の音楽化という難問に挑戦し成功をおさめたラスト曲など盛りだくさんです。

Frank Zappaが1968年に出したこのアルバムは，実は内側のジャケットがBeatlesの『サージェント・ペッパーズ....』のパロディーとなっています（実際は諸事情のため内ジャケとして使われたのですが(^^;)。サウンドの方は一部の曲を除いては３分に満たないPOPなものであり，これを聴けば，ZAPPAは難解だといういわれ無き誤解が解かれることは間違いなしです。とはいえ，歌詞の方は当時のフラワー・ムーヴメントを徹底的に揶揄したもの（「Flower Punk」(^^;)等一筋縄でいかないものばかりですけれどね....。サイケデリック・ロックとしても楽しめてしまう１枚です。

個人的には初期のZAPPAの作品の中で一番好きです。
アナログを盤が擦り切れるまで聞きました。

曲間に妙なノイズや会話が挿入されているので難解だとか言われていますが、実際は大変聞きやすい曲が揃っています。
後のLiveで何回も演奏された"Let's Make A Water Turn Black"等の代表曲も入っており初期のZAPPAの入門用には最適ではないでしょうか。
