Strange New Flesh was Colosseum II's first album, recorded not long after they formed in 1975. Over the years it has been regarded as probably their finest recorded work. Musically, it presented a much heavier and more Rock-oriented style than the earlier Colosseum, although rather less overtly HM-slanted than their immediate predecessor, Tempest. This expanded 2 CD reissue is boosted by the previously-unheard studio outtakes 'Scorch', 'Rivers' & 'Interplanetary Slut', plus the mind-blowing John Peel sessions of 'Dark Side Of The Moog', 'Siren Song', 'The Awakening', 'Put It This Way', 'Intergalactic Strut', 'Lament' & 'The Inquisition'. こんな曲が埋もれてたのか！Gary Mooreが好きな人はとにかく購入。disc-1のCastles-version 1を聴けば自然と頬がゆるみます。イングヴェイ・マルムスティーンやポール・ギルバートのネオクラシカル路線にちょっぴり飽きた人、ジョン・ペトルーシの機械のような正確なソロにちょっぴり疲れた人、リッチー・ブラックモアのロックの醍醐味のようなソロが懐かしい人、そういう人は、ブルース基本・ジャズかじりかけの奔放なソロを楽しんでください。ギター・ソロの興奮を味わえます。Garyがこんなギターを弾いてた頃があるんだって感動します。Garyのvocalだけは減点1ですが・・・。

２００５年リリース。１９７６年リリースのファーストに、発掘音源を加えた特別仕様盤・・・国内で紙ジャケ仕様もリリースされましたが（考えてみりゃ凄い！）、値段を考えれば十分満足いくフォーマットです。メンバーは、ジョンハイズマン（Ｄｒ）・ゲイリームーア（Ｇ）・ドンエイリー（Ｋｅｙ）・ニールマーレイ（Ｂ）・マイクスターズ（Ｖｏ）・・・このファーストのみ専任ボーカリストがいるので、他２枚のインスト主体の内容とは趣が違います。このアルバムは、私にゲイリームーアの存在を初めて教えてくれた重要な１枚で、とにかく大好きです！！いまじゃ考えられない勢い溢れるジャズロックなゲイリームーアのプレイは、最高です・・・ドンエイリー（このバンドでのアルバム全部！）のプレイは、コラシアム２の時が最高ではないでしょうか（この二人の掛け合いのなんとスリリングな事か！）。発掘音源の方も、これまた素晴らしい内容・・・ブート（ライブ）でしか聴いた事のなかった「サイレンソング」のスタジオバージョンなんてのは、そりゃもう大感激でした（カッコいい！！）。ＤＩＳＣ２のラスト３曲（ＢＢＣ音源）を聴くと、その演奏レベルの高さが良くわかります・・・１９７６年ですよ、この演奏！！２の５〜７の楽曲は内容的に、ニールマーレイのベースではなくジョンモール（セカンドから）加入後のデモだと思うのですが・・・どうなんでしょ？デイヴクレムソン→アランホールズワース→オリーハルソール→ゲイリームーアと、素晴らしいギタリストと組んできたジョンハイズマンって本当凄いと思いますね・・・オジーオズボーンか（笑）！！メンツに反応した方は、後悔しないうちに購入すべき素晴らしいフォーマットです。
