   映画監督志望の青年エド・ウッドは、性転換手術をテーマにした映画に取り組もうとするが、出資してくれるプロデューサーがいない。彼は往年のドラキュラ俳優ベラ・ルゴシを口説き、彼を出演させることを条件に、資金を集めようとする。

一度もヒット作を作れなかったC級監督、エド・ウッドのお話です。全編モノクロで制作されているのですが、これがまさに効果的。ベラ・ルゴシやヴァンパイラの姿は、ほとんど実際のフィルムと見分けがつかない出来です。
また、モノクロならではの陰翳も実に美しい。エドのスーツの黒に、女装エドの白の対照、ベラ・ルゴシの白っぽい普通の家の外観と、ヴァンパイア城を思わせる暗い内装。カラーとはひと味違った色彩感覚を見せつけられます。
どんな華々しい世界の裏にも、かならず地味な世界、ショボい世界があります。けれど、そんなショボい世界もまた、素晴らしい！ゴージャスな花束のような華麗さではないけれど、ひっそりと咲く一厘の花の美しさがこの作品にはあります。

『パイレーツ・オブ・カリビアン』で人気急上昇、根強いファンを獲得しているあの（！）ジョニー・デップの主演作品。
全編白黒ですが、そこがまたいい味出しています（設定が50年代のハリウッドだかららしいです）。
これを観ると彼の演技力がタダモノでないことがわかるはず！
彼が主演した作品はほとんど観ましたが、実に様々な役を演じてきたジョニー。
この作品もまたティム・バートン監督とタッグを組んでいるのですが、
観始めるといつの間にか例によって映画の世界に引き込まています。
彼が演じるのは『史上最低の監督』と謳われた（笑）実在の映画監督で、冴えない映画を撮り続けては不評を買い、
それでも性懲りもなく映画を撮り続けるという人物です。
才能はないけれど、いいヤツで憎めない、愛すべきキャラクターを好演しています。
見どころは･･･ジョニーさんの女装ですね（笑）。
ファン必見！！ユーモアたっぷりの一本。
ちなみに日本語吹き替えで観るとさらに笑える･･･！！？？

映画監督志望の青年エド・ウッドをジョニー・デップが見事に演じています。
映画が好きなんだなぁ、ということがよく伝わってきて、際物っぽいところも、
ジョニー・デップにはまっていて、映画への愛に溢れている感じがよく出ています。
往年のドラキュラ俳優ベラ・ルゴシがドラキュラ以上の存在感と名演で
アカデミー助演男優賞を受賞してしまいましたが、
俳優としての生き様を、エド・ウッドとは違うスタンスで見せてくれました。
彼もまた、映画狂の一人だったのです。
史上最低の映画監督という呼ばれ方は、最高の賛辞になっています。
それはエド・ウッドの映画への情熱と純粋な姿を、我々が応援者となって見ることができるからです。
そして「史上最低の映画監督」と呼ばれたいのは、監督のティム・バートン本人なのでしょうね。
