【プロフィール】
1965年米国ロサンゼルスで結成。バンド名はオルダス・ハクスリーの著書『知覚の扉』から。オリジナル・メンバーはジム・モリソン(vo)、レイ・マンザレク(key)、ジョン・デンズモア(ds)、ロビー・クリーガー(g)。66年エレクトラ・レコードと契約、67年にアルバム『ハートに火をつけて』でデビュー。アルバム収録の「ハートに火をつけて」が67年夏に大ヒットを記録。文学的な詞と個性的なサウンドでヒット曲・話題作を発表、またジム・モリソンのセクシャルなパフォーマンスによるライヴも評判となり、カウンター・カルチャーを代表するバンドとして高い人気を得るが、71年7月にジムが滞在先のパリで急死。残った3人で活動を続けるが、73年に解散。その後も未発表ライヴや伝記映画の公開などで注目を集めた。さらにマンザレク、クリーガーを中心に元カルトのイアン・アストベリーをヴォーカリストに迎え、“ザ・ドアーズ・オブ・21stセンチュリーの名で2003年に来日を果たした。

ドアーズの４th『ソフト・パレード』。
１曲目のイントロから“えっ！？これがドアーズ！？”と思うような意外なブラス・セクションから始まり、曲調もわりとポップなものが多いです。
９曲中４曲がギターのロビー・クリーガーの曲で、歌詞も１stや２ndのような圧倒的な完成度とは言い難く、モリソン・ファンにはちょっといまいちの作品かもしれません。

しかし、曲調がポップとはいえジム・モリソンの陰鬱な声はそのままなので、本作はやはりドアーズです。
とくに静まり返った中ジム・モリソンの狂気じみた朗読が始まるタイトル曲「ソフト・パレード」。「ジ・エンド」を思わせる序盤の幻想的なサウンドから、一転してポップなメロディへ。後半は意外でありながらも違和感を感じさせないパーカッションの効いたサウンドへと、大胆な展開を見せる曲です。この１曲のためだけでもこのアルバムを買う価値があります。

ジム・モリソンの残したたった６枚のオリジナル・アルバムのうちの１枚なので、ファンなら絶対に買いです。

ドアーズの４枚目のアルバム。聴いていただけるとわかると思いますが前作から一変して全体的にポップなアルバム。ほぼクリーガーが作曲しているのでそれが作品に大きく影響していると思われます。なのでファーストやセカンドのドアーズのイメージで聴くと肩透かしを食らうやも。。。ファンの間でも好き嫌いが分かれるアルバムだと思います。

６９年発表の４作目。ドアーズはアメリカの“陰”の部分を代表するグループで、後のニューヨーク・パンクやその他のアングラ系のアーティストでこのグループの影響を受けていないグループなど“ない”と言い切ってしまえるほど重要なグループです。かなりアングラなイメージがあり、実際に“陰”の部分が目立つのですが、それと相反するかのようなポップな側面を全開したこのアルバムはこのグループで考えると駄作とも言えるのですが、そのポップな曲が魅力的で個人的には一番愛聴しているアルバムです。曲の大半をロビー・クリーガーが書き、ブラスやストリングスが導入されているのがそのポップ化の要員になっているのでしょう。２．のタッチ・ミーは代表曲の一つで、この曲を合わせて４曲がシングル・ヒットしたようです。
