5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous Goth music!, 2005/8/9
It's difficult to describe the sound of Vexation, because there is nothing in this world to compare them to. They are Goth, but not like any other Goth music currently in existence. The group is just three women, U'ran Nagai (vocals, piano), Fool Fool (Storyteller) and Sharmin (Cello), but the music is much more than you would expect from a small group. Their sound is overwhelmingly moody in a classical manner, with gorgeous operatic vocals and stylized storytelling on top of it all (which I wish I could understand better, but I'm working on it). The only group I can think of to compare them to are Rasputina, but they don't sound anything like Rasputina.
Their debut CD has 11 songs on it, and the booklet comes with all the lyrics (including the stories!) and some lovely artwork which reinforces the Victorian theme they strive for in their shows. I would have liked there to be more pictures of the beautiful ladies, of course. The songs are about a wide range of subjects, including Romeo, Asphodel, Dracula, and the storyteller herself, Fool Fool. I absolutely adore every single song on this masterpiece, but my favorites are Joker Sandman Tou no ue, Hakoniwa no Bara, and Requiem. I expect that as my knowledge of Japanese improves, I will only find more to love about Vexation.
I would say that Vexation could revolutionize the way people perceive Japanese Goth, but their music might not be to a lot of people's tastes. It's too bad. The world might not be ready for the sheer gorgeousness that is Vexation. That's okay to me. It'll just be our little secret.

表情豊かでドラマチックなピアノと哀感に満ちたチェロ、永井幽蘭さんの中性的で麗しい歌声とFOOLFOOLさんの雰囲気たっぷりの朗読（ちょっとLucifer Luscious Violenoueさんを連想させる感じ）が紡ぎだす耽美的で倒錯的な禁断の世界。愛、死、血、薔薇、罪、人形…まさにそういう詩世界。「ロメオは血まみれ」は不気味でエロティック、SM的な世界。「水面の音楽」は典雅でロマンチックなピアノ旋律、寂しげなメロディと詩も素敵。「箱庭の薔薇」は一番気に入ってる。勇ましく悲劇的な響きでピアノが激しく飛び散り、哀愁たっぷりのチェロが心を震わせ、美しく感動的なメロディ。特に後半の情感あふれる歌声と早口で迫ってくる語りが重なり合う所は息が止まりそうなほどドラマチック。閉ざされた庭園、薔薇の花びらが散る中をくるくる回り踊る姿、流れる血、ナイフ、愛。「ジョーカーサンドマン塔の上」は幼い男の子みたいな声色（Noir fleurirのKENGOさんみたい）の語りが不気味、残酷な御伽話みたいな世界。たとえ異形の身に成り果てようとも最後には貴女を…おどろおどろしく乱れるピアノとチェロがカッコイイ。「夜のほとり」は静謐な美しさ。強弱のつけ方と曲展開が素晴らしい。間奏のチェロとピアノが心を揺さぶる。「ドラクル」は吸血鬼の悲しい物語。「ある晴れた日に」は優しく寂しい。鏡の人への愛。「アスフォデル」はねえ、おじさま？という台詞にゾッとする。悲壮感に満ちたチェロ・ピアノが迫り、魅惑的で恐ろしい語りに冷たく心を撫でつけられ、怖くて美しい歌声に殺される…圧巻！愛するあの娘を永遠に生かす為に人形にした…白い薔薇は赤い血を吸って甦る。「私はヲ人形」は心を閉ざし人形のように動かなくなった少女。曲展開が非常にドラマチック、鳥肌立ちます！「アルラウネ」はエキゾチック、悪夢、神秘、狂気の世界。「レクイエム」は切なく美しい終幕。

カチニカと似てるけどこっちのほうが好きですね
歌があそこまでオペラ調じゃないのでこっちのほうが一般には聴きやすいと思います。
8曲目のアスフォデルはリズミカルなピアノといい歌メロといいかなりいいです。ピアノの演奏技術はなかなかで緩急のコントロールもうまいです
ただ、全曲同じ楽器編成で曲のトーンが似てるのでどの曲も同じに聞こえてしまう人もいるかもしれません。
