このCDを見つけたときは小躍りして喜んだものだ。
エヴァンスファンならご存知の通り、この伝説のトリオの音源は、
基本的にリバーサイド・レーベルに吹き込まれたものしか存在していない。
この貴重な音源は"Portrait in Jazz"から"Explorations"の間に録音されたものだが、
音質は最悪で、ラジオの電波から撮ったもののよう。
Autumn Leavesが3回も収録されていることから、このトリオの18番であったことがわかるし、
スタジオ録音やヴァンガードで聴けない"Our Delight"や"Speak Low"などが聴けることも興味深い。
4月30日の"Autumn Leaves"では、トリオは非常に実験的な演奏をしている。
この日のこの曲はラファロのためのバージョンと言ってもいいほどで、
テーマからソロ、そしてエヴァンスがかぶさるまでの間、彼の非常に奔放な演奏が楽しめる。
比較的ピアノの音が小さいこともあるが、エヴァンスのソロに入ってからのフォービートのグルーヴは凄いの一言！
ヴィレッジ・ヴァンガードのライブを前にして、
このトリオの完成度が非常に高かったことを示している、貴重な一枚だと思う。

ビル・エヴァンスのファース・トリオの録音したアルバムは、4枚ですね。
見つけましたよ。水声社『ビル・エヴァンス-ジャズピアニストの肖像』のｐ１２３に。貴重な音源、今では死語になっている「エァー・チェック」の海賊盤。
エァー・チェックにしては思ったほど音は悪くなく（モノラルＬＰを知っていたら、良いと言います。）、ライブなので現場の音と番組の司会者シド・トーリンの声も入り、当時のラジオを聴くようです。　　　
よくぞ残してくれましたボリス・ローズさん、5枚目のアルバムですね。
