Japanese limited edition issue of the DSD mastered album classic in a deluxe, miniaturized LP sleeve replica of the original limited vinyl album artwork. This legendary package has 22 sides and folds out....well, like a lotus blossom! Includes a special history booklet (in Japanese) with numerous pictures of the period and miniaturizations of all the cards that were enclosed with the original LP issue. The CDs themselves are picture discs. The LP edition was an extremely limited edition and predictably, this edition will be as well! The Japanese have perfected the art of re-creating original album covers in the digital age and this set is one of their most outstanding packages ever!

　そうそう、あの「火曜サスペンス劇場」の冒頭に「ジャ、ジャッ、ジャーン」と流れる恐怖を誘うようなメロディーは、実はこのアルバムからのものだったのですよ。ご存じでしたか？

　1978年にアナログ日本盤が発売されて以来、海外盤ＣＤは出ていたものの日本ではＣＤ化されていなかった超名盤の復活に対し素直に感謝したいと思います。それもＳＡＣＤハイブリッド盤での発売とは二重の喜びです。これもリメーク映画「宇宙戦争」のおかげかも。

　これはつまりＨＧ＝ウェルズの原作をジェフ＝ウェインがミュージカルバージョンで制作したアルバムということになります。映画とは、旧作も今回の新作もサウンドトラックなどでの関係は全く有りません。ご注意！

　ですが、参加した声優とミュージシャンが凄い顔ぶれです。
　声優にリチャード＝バートン、ジュリー＝コビントン。
　ミュージシャンにフィル＝リノット（シン＝リジー）、ジャスティン＝ヘイワード（ムーディー＝ブルース）、デビッド＝エセックス、ジョー＝パートリッジ、クリス＝トンプソン。
　ムーディー＝ブルースの大ファンである私としては、当時すぐさまアナログ盤を手に入れて何度も何度も聞きました。遠い思い出です・・・。

　曲の完成度や構成の水準が非常に高く、今聴いても全く古さを感じません。トータルアルバムとしても優れた逸品です。
　随所に「ＷＯＯＯ-ＲＡ」という、おそらく宇宙からの侵略者の叫び声が挿入されています。これが結構曲とマッチして恐怖感を醸しだし良い感じです。途中にヴィグラスとオズボーンというグループで日本でもヒットした「秋はひとりぼっち」という曲が入っていたり、最後がちょっと原作と違ったストーリーになっていたりして、結構楽しめます。
　もちろん英語のセリフも入っていますのでストーリーの展開がよくわかります。

　さてこの作品が実際にロックミュージカルとして公演されたかどうかは私は知り得ませんが、ともかく是非一度聴いてみて下さい。

　そのサウンドの美しさに圧倒されること間違いなしですよ。

H.G.ウェルズのSF小説「宇宙戦争」
映画にもなったしリメイクもされましたが、この音楽は映画に使われたわけではなく、原作小説を音楽化したものです。
このアルバムJeff Wayneの「The War Of The Worlds」は1978年発売以来、英国では200万枚以上売り上げ、全世界では1300万枚と言う脅威のセールスを生み出している超名盤です。
　アルバムの魅力を簡単に上げるならストーリー性、プログレッシブロックとクラシック、そして現代音楽(シンセサイザー)の融合でしょう。
リチャード・バートンによるナレーションや会話などが入り物語を感じさせ、音楽では78年までのシンセサイザーで宇宙や巨大機械を再現した不思議な音、そして壮大な映画には欠かせないシンフォニックが加わり、最初から最後までプログレ展開しながら飽きずに一気に進んでいきます
このCDを聴き終わった後に最高の映画を見たかのような感情が味わえます。

25年以上たってもまったく古く感じないところもプログレッシブロックならでは
H.G.ウェルズの「宇宙戦争」と一緒に読めばなおいっそう楽しめるでしょう
ジャケットの巨大マシーン(tripod)こそが本当の宇宙戦争と言っても良いくらいファンの多い機体です

　今まで、ナレーションや歌詞で何を言っていたかがわからなかった人も日本版にはうれしい完全日本語和訳が入っているため少々海外版より高いですがお勧めします。
小説を読まなくてもこれだけで内容を理解できます。限定版なのでこの機会を逃すと損しますよ。スーパーオーディオでマルチチャンネル対応高音質なので持っている人でも一枚買ってもよいと思います。

内容については他の方のレビューにお任せしますが、是非、SACDのマルチチャンネルで聴いて頂きたい作品です。

理屈抜きに鳥肌ものです。
素晴らしい音楽を聴けば、体が反応します。

H.G.ウェルズのSF古典作品「宇宙戦争」のオーディオ版はSACDだからこそ、その世界観を表現しきれる作品です。
