アナログを持ってても買いです。今月４４枚目のアルバム「モダン・タイムス」が発売される（ほんとに発売日にちゃんと出るんでしょうか。「血の轍」以来、発売が延期されるのが美徳になってるような気がするので）ボブ・ディランのセカンド。ＰＰＭであまりにも有名（ＰＰＭ自体知らない人が多いかも）な「風に吹かれて」から始まるこのアルバムは、次作「時代は変わる」ほどプロテスト色が濃くなく、とてもバラエティーに富んだ内容になっています。キューバ危機を歌ったと言われる「はげしい雨が降る」、アイルランド民謡のメロディーを借りた「北国の少女」、女性との別れを歌った「くよくよするなよ」（友部正人にいいカバーがあります）等の有名な曲以外にも、聞く以前に歌詞がすでにせつない「ボブ・ディランの夢」（実はこの曲が一番好きかも）や、唯一バンドを伴った「コリーナ　コリーナ」（ブートで聞いたソロもよいです）といった佳曲もあります。印象的なジャケットとも相まって、「思い出の１ページ」的に大切に思っている人も多いのではないでしょうか。最近ＤVＤ化された「ノー・ディレクション・ホーム」でこのジャケット以来の姿を我々に見せてくれたスーズ・ロトロは相変わらずチャーミングで、このアルバムをまたさらに思い入れ深いものにしてくれました。

６３年発表の２ｎｄ。プロテスト・フォーク時代のディランの作品はどれも重要かつ名曲がぎっしりと詰まっていて甲乙付け難いが、個人的にはこれが一番好き。もちろん他のアルバムも大好きであり、なぜこのアルバムが一番好きなのかは説明が付かないのだけどフト聞いてしまうのがこのアルバムなのだ。また私は説教臭いプロテスト・ソングの類いははっきり言って嫌いなのだが、その草分け的なディランが大好きなのは自己矛盾しているだけに言葉につまってしまう。何にしてもメッセージ云々は置いておいても曲として楽しめるがディランの素晴しさなのだろう。曲の素晴しさがあってこその歌詞の説得力だと思う。ということでディランを国内盤以外で買うのはやめた方が良い。あくまでも曲として楽しめるが、言いたいことがあって歌っているのがディランなのだから。どの曲も良く煮込んだおでんのように味が染み渡っていてうまい。１．は６０年代を象徴する曲であり、６．も代表作の一つ。２．はナッシュビル・スカイラインでジョニー・キャッシュとのデュエットで再演される曲。７．と８．はディランの曲の中では個人的に大好きな曲です。

素人の恋人の写真をジャケットに使う度胸がすごい。ここで写っているスージー・ロトロ
は「No Direction Home」で久しぶりに顔が見えたみたいだが、
いつまで経ってもこの写真を見せつけられるのもかなわん話だと思うが。まあ余計なお世話か。
それはともかく私はこのジャケット好きなのだ。
この冬のニューヨークのピンと空気が張っていそうな雰囲気の中を歩く二人。絵になる。
内容は今更言うことも無い。Dylanの人気を決定付けた傑作だが、同時にDylanに未だに
付きまとうプロテストシンガーとしてのレッテルを貼り付けたアルバム。
冷静に聴けば「Blowin' In The Wind」なんて全然抵抗せずに「答は風に舞ってる」と
淡々と述べているだけなんで全然抵抗という感じしないんですけど。
