例によってUK盤を聴いた限りでレビューしています。ELOは1986年に一旦解散した跡、2001年にジェフ・リンがほとんどひとりで録音したアルバムZoomを発表しました。このアルバムに前後してアンソロジーFlashback、リマスター再発4タイトル、ベストアルバムUltimate CollectionとEssentialELOなどが出ましたが、予定されていたツアーはセールスが伸びずにキャンセルとなり、リマスターも性急な計画が齟齬を生じて途中で放置されてしまいました。

今回のベストアルバムは、Sony-BMGが全面的にバックアップして世界的なプロモーションを伴うものであり、UKでは全国チャートの6位まで上昇したタイトルです。内容はシングルコレクションで、なぜこの曲がという不思議な選曲もありますが、主なヒット曲はほぼ網羅されています。特に、ZoomからのAlright、それからFlashbackにしか収録されず、なかなか聴くのが困難だったXanaduの2000年バージョン（リードボーカルはジェフです）が含まれているのが特徴です。

さらに、日本盤ではUK盤からWild West Heroをカットして、かわりにT1Twilightが収録されています。この選曲はテレビドラマとのタイアップなのですが、それを抜きにしてもELOのポップソングとしては白眉とも言えるキラーチューンですので、この曲を足がかりにELOのポップワールドを体験していただければと願っています。もちろんそれ以外にも映画「エターナルサンシャイン（のトレイラー）で評判を呼んだMr. Blue Sky、BeautifulSouthがカバーしたLivin' Thingなども入っており、ジェフ・リンのポップセンスのショーケースといえます。

音質としては、2000-2001年のリマスターにさらに磨きがかけられています。価格的にも内容的にもお勧めできるコンピレーションだといえます。初回限定でスリップケースつきだとのことですので、限定盤マニアはお見逃しなく。

ＭＴＶ世代の私にとって「バランス・オブ・パワー」からの選曲が無いのは個人的にはとても残念です。（現在ＣＤはどうも廃盤みたいですが・・・）

電車男でＥＬＯを知った方、最新の音で聴きたい方には良い作品と思います。
でもやっぱり「トワイライト」はアルバムの「プロローグ」からの続きで聴くのが作法かと・・・。
「タイム」もおすすめいたします！！

最近、やたらと70年代80年代の洋楽が、テレビドラマの主題歌に使われますよね―！クイ―ンがすごくヒットしたけど、クイ―ンのようなメロデイアスなロックが好きな方には、ELOはオススメ！トワイライトが電車男の主題歌になって話題になっているけど、もっといい曲がたくさんあります。ボクは「ワイルドウエストヒ―ロー」なんてきれいなバラ―ドで良いと思います。ELOは、70年代前半、クラッシクとロックの融合を目指した実験的なバンドでしたが、そのころの楽曲も魅力的。ビ―トルズとりわけポ―ル・マッカトニ―の曲が好き！という人にもオススメです。リ-ダ-のジェフ・リンは大のビ―トルズ好きだしね！日本人受けがいいと思うのに…なぜ今まで話題にならなかったんだろう？
