サンバやガムランを積極的に取り入れたアルバム。
イメージ的には細野晴臣の「泰安洋行」などの和製南洋ポップスに近い。
細野が音楽的な独自性やクールさを表現するためにあえて意図的に現在の
歌謡曲の泣きの部分を全部捨てざるを得なかったのに対し、
このアルバムにはしっかり日本人的な歌謡曲のテイストが残っている。
それなのに本作はトロピカルな楽曲に日本語で歌うことから出てくる
違和感や不自然さがまったくない。それでいて安く音楽シーンに迎合する
雰囲気を出さずにポップで自然な（あるいはそれ以上にこなれた）
ミクスチャー音楽を表現するという難しい問題を、軽やかで楽しい楽曲で
明快に解決できている。シングルカットされた「風になりたい」や
「帰ろうかな」などで顕著だが、日本語でサンバやワールドミュージックを
まねするのではなく、本質を捉えることに成功したことが大きいのだろう。
細野たち先人にあった、一種の選民思想的でもあるズブさのような
センス感覚に一切頼らなかったこともアルバムの高感度を高めていてよい。
しかし何よりも単純に、感傷を含みつつも躍動感溢れる楽曲が
すべていいのだ。
「やっぱり楽しくなきゃね」と音楽の陽の面を信じて直球を投げ込んで
くる正直さがある。だから聴いていてとても気持ちがいい。
やっぱりこれがいい音楽の基本ですよ。

当然のごとくヒットしたが、生演奏での暖かみのある
踊れる音楽へのアプローチといい、日本での第三世界の音楽形態での
ポップチャートでの高アクションの草分け的な存在といい、
時代が進めば進むほど評価がまだまだ大きくなっていく要素がまだ
ゴロゴロ転がっている。
日本のみならずワールドミュージックの歴史に残る一枚。
これを聴くたびに、つとに世の中音楽だけは自由で平等な表現なのだと思う。

THE BOOMの6thアルバムは、FACELESS MANで吹っ切れた勢いそのままに、サンバのリズム、音を取り入れた色彩豊かな作品に仕上がっている。
代表作の一つとなった「風になりたい」や、TVCMで有名になった「brangkat-ブランカ-」、その他にも「TOKYO LOVE」、「帰ろうかな」とそれぞれが様々な音を取り入れ質の高い曲になっている。
沖縄民謡、サンバと、伝統的な音楽のエッセンスを取り込んだことで、批判的な意見が出たこともあったが、単なるモノマネではなく、THE BOOMとして昇華させた音楽になっていると思う。
初期からのファンの中には急激な変化についていけなくなった人も沢山いたようで、このあたりから聴くのをやめたという感想をよく聞きました。私は戸惑いながらもついていくことで、世界が拡がったように感じることができました。

前作のアバンギャルドを大幅にポップに方向転換した上で、従来ひきずっていた「ネオフォークソング」的な湿っぽさから完全に決別してスケールアップした、THE BOOM自身にとってもリスナにとっても記念碑となる大傑作アルバム。

明るくて、軽くて、暖かくて、陽気で、なつかしくて、騒がしくて、純真で、本当に本当に純真で、自分の中にもそんな純真さがあることを見つけて嬉しくなってしまう、幸せな大切なアルバム。
