インディ時代のステージからラスト・ツアーとなったイン・ユーテロ・ツアーまで全16曲を収録した、彼らの偉大なる軌跡を辿るライヴ・アルバム！96年作品。

   カート・コバーンと共にニルヴァーナを組んでいたクリス・ノヴォセリックとデイブ・グロールが、コバーンの死後2作目となる本作の編集を計画したのは自然なことだった。というのも、コバーンの死後にリリースされた最初のアルバム『MTV Unplugged in New York』の重苦しさと緊張感が、彼の自殺後数日間MTV局で特別番組として繰り返し放送されたために、このバンドのライブとして強く印象づけられてしまったからだ。けれども、ニルヴァーナのライブの本質は、そうしたアコースティック感でも死への願望でもなく、あらんかぎりの精力を注いで表現される生への切望感だった。
   本作はバンドの全ライヴ音源から広く16曲が収録され、どのナンバーも信じられないほど騒々しく狂暴で、ときには考えられないほどグシャグシャである。コンサート開始前の音の断片であるオープニング曲「Intro」でコバーンは歓喜の叫びを上げているが、これは「Where Did You Sleep Last Night」の苦悶の叫びとは対照的と言える。続いてバンドは「School」を開始し、このナンバーは最後に「悲しむな」と鼓舞するかのようなコーラスで終わるが、その感傷も長続きはせず、｢Smells Like Teen Spirit｣、「Sliver」、「Heart-Shaped Box」、「Negative Creep」といった躍動感あふれる轟音ナンバーにかき消される。
   確かに本作は喝采に値するものの、未発表の貴重なナンバーが収録されているわけでもなく、今は亡きニルヴァーナのアルバムの中で傑出した作品とは言えない。つまり本作は過去のスタジオアルバムほどの重要性はなく、悲観的だが啓示的な『Unplugged』と比べてさえも同様である。（Jim Derogatis, Amazon.com）

Ｍ２~８は選曲は完璧ですし、音源もなかなかなものです。Ｍ５のスメルズ~の演奏の勢いといったら、９０年代最強って言うやつがいるのも分かる気がします。Ｍ９以降は選曲はまあ妥当なんでしょうけど、音が原曲よりも迫力が無い気がします。でもＭ１４のポーリーだけは最高です。原曲とことなるミックスで、ギター音がヤバイです。ニルヴァーナ入門にはベストよりこちらをお勧めします

去年DVDとして再発された「Live!tonight!soldout!」のエキストラトラックに、1991年11月21日のアムステルダムでのパフォーマンスが収められていますが、
そのアムステルダムのライブから、4曲がこのアルバムにも入っています。

1,School や17,blewなんですが、ものすごくかっこいい！
おすすめはなんといっても、Nevermind以前の初期の曲。
サブポップレーベル時代の曲がデイブ　ｸﾞロールのドラムによって、圧倒的な力をもってよみがえります。

やはり、デイブがいなければNIRVANAというバンドはなりたたなかったんではないでしょうか？

in uteroからも　10scentiess apprentice　が収録されていますが、まあドラムのかっこいいこと！
カートのギターとからみ盛り上がっていく様は、まさに「エクスタシー」です。

死ぬ間際、ヘロインとコートニー（bitch!)、それからバンドの版権をめぐる争いで孤立していたカートですが、もっとメンバーとのコラボを熱心にすすめていれば、曲作りへの不安も解消でき、前向きにバンドを「マネジメント」できたのではないでしょうか？

1991:the year punk brokeというsonic youth とNIRVANAのツアーの様子を収めた映像作品がありますが、その中でにこにこはしゃいでいるカートがとても印象的です。

ともあれ、作品の少ないNIRVANAという「バンド」の生の姿を把握できる貴重な作品ではないでしょうか。

勢いあるライブ感を楽しめる一枚。
私自身，ニルヴァーナの良いリスナーではないですが，このアルバムは初めから終わりまで本当に綺麗なギターのメロディラインが続いていくのが分かります。これだけ，激しい曲調，シャウト，大音量なのに，メロディの耳馴染みが驚くほどよく，激しさの中に素晴らしいポップセンスがあるアルバムだと思いました。
