最近、ブルータル系のヘヴィ・メタル・バンド（デスやブラックではない）は、いいバンドが増えてるなぁというのが個人的な印象だが、０５年に２ｎｄ「THE　EMPIRES　OF　THE　WORLDS」で日本デビューを果たした彼らもその一つ。

イギリスの正統派メロディック・メタルバンド、BALANCE　OF　POWERの５ｔｈアルバムでランス・キングに代わってシンガーを務めたジョン・Ｋが率いるバンドだが、元BALANCE　OF　POWERという肩書きを想像して聴くとひっくり返ること間違いなしのサウンド。

とにかく全編に漲る音のテンションの高さが尋常じゃない。

変拍子〜ブラスト疾走までをも交えた複雑かつ怒涛のアグレッションを備えた楽曲に、うねるような硬質かつテクニカルなギターと、時にブラック・メタルを連想させる冷ややかだが荘厳なオーケストレーションがねじ込まれ、そこに血管ぶち切れ金属スクリーム〜デス・ヴォイスを自在に轟かせるジョン・Ｋの狂気じみた超絶歌唱が載るスタイルは、そこいらのデス・メタルバンドが裸足で逃げ出すブルータリティとテクニックを備えており、喩えるならば差し詰め暴走したFEAR　FACTORYか、脱デス化したCRYPTOPSYといった趣。

メンバー全員が恐るべきテクの持ち主。
一糸乱れぬアンサンブルで轟かせる狂気のサウンドは、そのあまりの音数ゆえに、パッと聴きは騒音にしか聴こえないかもしれないが、その実は巧みに構築された展開をもっており、そこかしこから緻密な知性を感じ取ることができる。

正統派〜デス・ブラック、スラッシュ、プログレ、果てはサントラまでを自在に行き来するハイパー・ヘヴィ・メタル。

圧巻。

イギリス期待のバイオメカニカル2ndにして日本デビュー作。
Voはギリシャ出身でバランス・オブ・パワーにもいたジョンＫを中心にしたバンド。
このVoは本作で初めて聴いたのだが、フィル・アンセルモやロブ・ハルフォードスタイルに、時にはパワフルながら優しげに唄うという幅広いスタイルだ。
音楽性もパンテラ、プリーストにスラッシュ／デス／ブラックを取り入れたスタイル。シンセも多用し、まさに音の洪水なため、ある意味グチャグチャな音楽。
いまさら音楽性に対して別に驚きはしないスタイルなのだが、終始ハイテンションなこのアルバムは、非常に完成度が高い。
イギリスからこういうバンドの登場は非常に意味がある。今後も期待したい。
