シングルＢ面集ということですが、ほかにも、
何らかの理由で未発表になっていた古い曲や、
メンバーのお気に入りのカバー曲、
完全なる新曲も入っています！
疾走感あふれるギターポップはもちろん、
思いっきりカントリーな曲もあり、
ブリトニーのカバー曲には驚き、またそのアレンジセンスの良さといったら・・・
チェロやトランペットの音が入った曲もあります。
Ｂ面集なんていうにはもったいないほど、またしても捨て曲なしのアルバムです！

　オリジナルアルバムが３作のみのバンドが、B面（ボーナストラック）や未収録曲アルバムをリリースする、しかも２枚組、正直驚きました。日本盤はCCCDで、輸入盤は？というのがありましたが、PCにも落とせましたしiPODにも取り込めました。CCCDの表示もないし、これで実はCCCDでしたはないでしょう。
　ところで、このアルバムはいいです。セレクトされたシングルやアルバム収録曲でないものの、その型にハマってないフリーな感じといい、バンドの音楽的なバックボーンが見え隠れして、ボーナストラックなんて取って付けたようなシロモノではない、掘り出し物的なアルバムだと。ボーナストラック集をこれだけのボリュームでリリースしたいとバンドが意図的に思い、これにレコード会社も乗ったのであれば、それはバンドとしてとても健全な状態だと思います。パワーポップはもちろん、アコースティック、カントリー、60’sや70’sPOPなどなど非常に幅の広さを感じます。棚ぼたでした。

本作はFountains of wayne(以下FOW)のB面集という肩書きを
持ってリリースされますが、ここ日本ではなかなかシングルを
入手するのは困難でした。従ってB面曲を耳にするのも非常に
難しかったこともあり、我々日本人にとってはまさしく、FOWの
「4枚目の2枚組フルアルバム」といっても差し支えないでしょう。
本作はB面曲に加え、3曲の新曲が追加され、ファーストシングル
カットされるのが、Disc1-2「Maureen」とのことです。
その新曲3曲は、「Stacy's Mom」の続編みたいな雰囲気の曲だそ
うで、3枚目のアルバムでFOWを知ってファンになった方にも馴染
み深いアルバムになることでしょう。
Disc1-4「Janice's Party」は底抜けなポップ感あるAメロと、ひ
ねくれ感あるサビが絶妙なバランスで交差する曲です。
Disc1-7「I Know You Well」は2枚目のアルバムの日本盤ボーナス
トラックとして追加されていたものです。
Disc2-3「....Baby One More Time」はブリちゃんのカバー曲。
Disc2-5「Comedienne」はしっとりとした、スローナンバー。
Aメロに奥行きがあり、サビで一気に盛り上がる感じが胸を締め
つけます。
超ポップあり、胸キュンなスローナンバーあり、カントリーチック
な渋い系あり。古くからのFOWファンも、最近知った方も、ちょっと
気になっただけという方も、間違いなく「買い」です。
このベスト盤をもし、好きになれたなら、「Gigolo Aunts」辺りを探ってみてはいかがでしょうか？
