僕とJellyfishとの出会いは1995年頃で奥田民生がきっかけだった。
奥田民生の2ndアルバム『30』で、このJellyfishの主要メンバーだったアンディ・スターマーとコラボレーとした作品があったからである。

Jellyfishの活動期間は1990年〜1993年と僅か3年間。
ジャンルとしてはパワーポップに含まれるが、セールス的にはそれほど大成功した訳ではなかったらしい。
しかし、その卓越したポップセンスは一部のポップマニアの間では今でも崇拝される存在である。
セールス的には売り出し方とタイミングの問題が悪かっただけであろうと思う。
何せ1990年〜1993年のアメリカシーンといえば、言わずもがなグランジ真っ只中。
それは厳しかった事だろう。
たぶん登場が1995年だっただけでも取り扱いはかなり異なった事だろうと思う。

ちなみにバンド名の直訳は「くらげ」
そのぬるさもまた何とも言えないのである。

メロディが素晴らしいだけにどの曲も聴ける歌ではあるのだが、個人的に凄く好きなのは「That Is Why」、「King Is Half Undressed」、「I Wanna Stay Home」、「She Still Loves Him」「Bedspring Kiss」、「Baby's Coming Back」って「ほとんどじゃねーかー！！」っていう突っ込みはなしの方向で．．．。

バンド名が「くらげ」です。人を食ったような名前ですが、曲調もこのバンドの評価としてよく使われる、ビートルズやビーチボーイズ、クィーンといった感じを彷彿させます。不思議な世界観の曲調は、軽いポップな雰囲気で、キューピーマヨネーズのCMの世界観にも似ています。２枚のアルバムで解散してしまったようですが、今でも楽しく聴けるアルバムです。

ビートルズフォロワーとしては90年代随一のバンドであろう。(2)は当時いろんな邦楽アースィストが自分のラジオ番組で取り上げていた。
覚えやすく親しみやすいメロディの良質なポップスという、90年代アメリカにおいてダサいとされた路線を屈託なく追求している。
ソングライターでリードボーカルのアンディ・ストラマーは腕の立つドラマーでもあって、そのパワフルで歌心のあるプレーがサウンド上のポイントにもなっている。
