スペシャルズは活動も短く、基本的にはオリジナルアルバムは２枚しか出ていないので、そちらを購入してからの方が良いカモ。ツートーンムーブメントをマッドネスとともに支えた彼らは、後にスペシャルＡＫＡ・ファンボーイスリー・カラーフィールドというように分派していきますが、やっぱり８０年代オリジナルメンツでの初期スペシャルズがサイコーです。

ツートーン・スカの王道スペシャルズ。勿論彼らのイチ押しはデビュー作なのですが、
このシングル集では、特にオリジナル2枚("The SPECIALS","MORE SPECIALS")
だけでは網羅できなかった"Gangstars"とか、"The Guns of Navalon"などの
名曲をおさえておきたいところです。

時間経過による音の変遷も楽しめますが、どうしても初期のいかにもスカという
ナンバーの方にフォーカスしがちなのは、ある程度致し方ないところかと。

シングルを集めたベスト版と聴いて、躊躇、敬遠する人も多いと思うんだけど
このCDだけはオリジナルアルバム未収録の曲の存在だけで、マジでオリジナルアルバムを越えちゃってる。
特に５曲目のGuns Of Navaroneはトロンボーンメインのインストなんだけど、これがまたノリノリなスカ。もうなんかかなりジャマイカ、かなりヤバイ。個人的にはスペシャルズと言えばこの曲ってくらいの勢い。この曲無しではスペシャルズは考えられない。
コンクリートジャングルが収録されてないのが残念だけど、ツボを押させえたセレクトは納得だし、オリジナルアルバム２枚に先に手を伸ばすくらいなら、まずこっちに逝って欲しいというのが僕の率直な感想です。
