コルトレーン、モブレーなどの超有名テナー奏者と共演した、タイトル通りのブロー合戦。かと言ってただただ熱いだけでない。よくあるジャム・セッションのようなマンネリズムに陥らないところは、さすが総帥アルフレッド率いるブルー・ノート盤だ。とにかく黙って聴くべし、大音量がいいね！（許せる範囲で）

とにかく熱いセッションです！
スピーカーの向こうに立ち昇る湯気が見えてきそうそうなくらい。
機関車の如く力強くブリブリと吹きまくるグリフィン
リー・モーガンも鋭いナイフみたいなシャープなフレーズを連発し
ブレイキーのドラミングも煽る煽る。
まさにブローイング・セッション!!火傷しそうです。
モブレーと進化途上のコルトレーンはやや迫力不足ながら
それを補って余りある、チンチンに沸騰したスタジオの雰囲気が
伝わってきて興奮せずにはいられません。
（Ｐ）ウィントン・ケリー、（Ｂ）ポール・チェンバースと
パーソネルも超豪華な強力盤で５つ星。
ジャケットの鳥が怖いけど、お奨め盤であることに間違いありません。

リトルジャイアンツの異名を持つジョニー･グリフィンがマイルスのテナーマンとして活躍したジョン･コルトレーンとハンク・モブレーという名手と競演した迫力盤。リズムセクションもウイントン・ケリー、ポール・チェンバースというこれまたマイルスバンドに欠かせない面々。さらにアート・ブレイキーがドラムスとくればこれはオールスターメンバーである。しかも新人として飛ぶ鳥を落とす勢いのリー・モーガンのトランペットが絡む。57年の演奏だが、この時期としてはコルトレーンが化けかかった頃で、同じくモンクとの共演によってコルトレーン同様進化を遂げたグリインが競り合っている。フィンガーワークと自在なアドリブに勝るグリフィンがやや優勢勝ちというところか。モブレーは中量級なので音量でやや劣る印象。いずれにしても異なったタイプのテナーを聴く事が出来る点で貴重なセッションである。今宵の君は、ボール・ベアリングと激しいブロー合戦が続くが、オール・ザ・シングス・ユー・アーではグリフィンの歌心が十分聞かれる。コルトレーンはシーツ･オブ･サウンズで応戦しているが、まだ完成途上で、カインド・オブ・ブルーやジャイアントステップスの演奏には及ばない。ベルベット・トーンのモブレーもかなり善戦している。
