   ジェーン・カンピオン監督の『ピアノ・レッスン』は深く琴線に触れる作品であり、1993年に公開されると、その豊かで夢幻的な映像によって観客を魅了している。主人公のエイダ（ホリー・ハンター）は6歳のときに話すことをやめたスコットランド女性。娘のフローラ（アンナ・パキン）を伴い大切なピアノとともに、農夫の夫（サム・ニール）と見合結婚のためにニュージーランド南端の島にやって来る。エイダは、顔にマオリ族の入れ墨をした無愛想な隣人（ハーベイ・カイテル）にピアノを教えることになり、そこから展開が始まる。映画は力強くも夢のようなロジックに基づいており、ストーリー性すらあっさり否定してしまう。息をのむほど美しい恋愛映画であり、異彩を放つ演出家であるカンピオン監督が独特の手法で作り上げている。カンヌ国際映画祭ではパルム・ドール賞を受賞し、さらにアカデミー賞ではハンターとパキンがオスカーを、カンピオンが脚本賞をそれぞれ受賞している。（Jim Emerson, Amazon.com）

高波打ち寄せる海岸に置去られたピアノを画面中央に捉えたシーン。
バックには、マイケル・ナイマン作曲のテーマ音楽が流れている。
このワンシーンが本作品の輪郭を構成し、第一の成功要因だと思う。
ホリー・ハンター自身が弾いているとのことで、余計に素晴らしい。

この映画はやはり、女性に受け入れられるのではないだろうか。
また監督はじめ製作スタッフが女性中心というのもうなずける。
例えば、主人公をふたりの男性が暴力で奪い合うのではなく、
このような結末に帰したり、官能シーンの描き方でも然りである。

タイトルの「ピアノ・レッスン」は、英語名のみ「The PIANO」。
既登録の関係でこうなったらしい。さて、どちらが好いだろうか？

なんといっても音楽が素晴らしい。
一時期、このサントラを何度も繰り返し聴いたものです。
今でも携帯の着信音にしているくらい、美しいメインテーマが大好きです。

全編を通してもの悲しい映像ですが、どのシーンに流れる曲もすべてマッチしていて、とても長いミュージックビデオのようでもあります。
ホリー・ハンターは強い意志を持った女性を好演しています。

しかしながら万人に受ける映画ではないでしょう。

このＤＶＤジャケットに何か感じるものがあったら・・・ぜひご鑑賞ください。

それと、今回の再発化で高画質化されていると嬉しいのですが。
以前のＤＶＤはあまりにも画質が悪くてげんなりでした。

感情表現をピアノという手段によってしかできないエイダを理解「してくれるのは」ではなく、「できるのは」ベインズしかいなかった。それをエイダは悟ったからこそ、「教える」という大義名分のもとに、ベインズのもとへピアノを弾きに＝「伝えに」走ったのだと思う。
逢瀬を重ねるごとに、たかぶってゆく彼女の演奏と愛。
ベインズに「帰れ」と言われ、彼の顔をしたたかに打ち、互いに激しくキスを交わし合う様を見て、「男と女はこのようにして愛し合うのだ」と思った。
指を夫に切り落とされてしまったエイダが、義指で鍵盤を押すたびにカタカタと鳴る音が、幸福な中にも切なく響く。
ベインズ役の俳優の好演ぶりは素晴らしい。
