　エスコン・シリーズの集大成的作品です。
　最新作ZEROは何も考えず、ひたすら目の前の敵エースを撃墜する楽しさが売りですが、それとは両極のようなゲーム性です。
　「仲間との絆」を強調しているせいか、援護・救援・偵察・逃亡等々がやたらと多く、自由度が非常に少なかったりします。
　重厚でボリュームのあるストーリーとも関わっているので、一概に悪とはできませんが、ZEROに比べて少々かったるい気もします。
　一方で、ZEROはストーリーやボリューム感が物足りなく、まさに一長一短です。
　「重厚な５」か「爽快なZERO」かの選択になるでしょう。
　両方やるのが一番良いですが。。。
　個人的には、甲乙つけ難い。
　それぞれ欠点があるので、両作とも星４つの評価です。

このシリーズは「3」から始めましたが、
間違いなくシリーズ最高傑作だったと思います。
しかも発売半年足らずで半額以下！！
これは買いの一本ではないでしょうか？

確かに僚機に指示を出せるがイマイチ使えない、
戦闘中に会話はできるが単調、
ストーリーの分布がない
隠し機体が強すぎる(笑)等々不満はあります

しかしシナリオは短編小説ぐらいになら
なってしまいそうな細かい描写のある内容に
なっていますし戦闘中の無線による両軍のセリフも
細部までのこだわりを感じさせるリアルさがありますし
BGMもいい曲をシーンにしっくりくるものを
絶妙にあわせてきます。
しかも一曲一曲がまた良い！！
普段ゲームやドラマのサウンドトラックは
買わないのですが今回ばかりは買ってしまいました

ゲーム自体も前作に比べると敵もミサイル回避を
しますが難易度が極端に高くならないように
上手く調整されています。
その上で難易度設定を変更すると弾薬数が増減し、
敵機の動きも変わってシューティング初心者から
経験者までやり尽くせます。
また使用可能な機体も有名なF-14トムキャットから
最新鋭機F-35JSF、訓練機のHAWKまで！！

しかし反面、作戦中の補給システムがなくなり前作のような
後先考えず撃ちまくれる爽快感か少々削がれた感じですが
そのためにわざわざ、別モードで前作の軽い続編的なものが
用意されておりこっちは打って変わって爽快感重視仕様で
BGMやシステムも前作や本編からの使い廻し等の手抜き
ではなく新調されていて最高でした。

このゲームの素晴らしい所は無線。これに尽きると思う。
ゲーム的には正直、前作と大差は無いのだが無線があるだけでテンションが俄然変わってくる。
豊富に用意された友軍や敵との会話が想像以上にゲームを盛り上げてくれた。
難易度や物語の尺も丁度良い感じ。お勧め出来るゲーム。
