Jazz初心者の私が、素直な気持ちでとても感動しました。CDショップの試聴機でたまたまヘッドフォンを被ったら、もう全曲聴かずにはいられなくなり、聴いた挙句に迷わず購入しました。
Jazz通の皆様、ごめんなさい！スタン・ゲッツという人もケニー・バロンという人も、このCDで初めて知りました。なのに、２曲目の night and day で早くも涙が(；＿；)

亡くなる３ヶ月前の、病気と闘いながらの演奏であるということを事前に知って聴いたせいもあるかもしれませんが、転がるように軽やかで力強い演奏が信じられなくて。また、聴衆の歓声やそれに応える演奏者、その場の空気感をとてもあたたかいモノに感じました。演奏者も観客もきっと「笑顔」です。カッコイイです。saxとpianoだけのデュオという点でも生々しさを感じます。
自分の生き様を反省しました…。

前からほしかったアルバム。でもゲッツは初期だよな。死の三ヶ月前？本当に演奏は大丈夫か？ピアノとのデュオ？ベースもドラムもなしか。そう思ってました、これまでは。所が、聴いてびっくり。このゲッツのパワーは、一体どこから来るのか。このスウィング感は間違いなくゲッツだ！ピアノのケニー・バロンも対等にすばらしい。更にこのデンマークのお客さんがすばらしい。ソロが終わる度に拍手喝采、ライブのお手本です。ぜひ見習いたい（聴きながら思わず自分も拍手しました）。
また、本盤音が非常にいい。ゲッツの息遣い、バロンの指使い、観客の拍手の一体感がすばらしい。特に一枚目6曲目I remember Cliffordの7分6秒と16秒観客の咳の音に注目。生々しさが味わえます。この音で2枚組で価格も言うことなし。
断言します。スタン・ゲッツ生涯の最高傑作です。

１９９１年３月、死の３ヶ月前にコペンハーゲンのジャズクラブ「カフェ・モンマルトル」での、ピアニストのケニー・バロンとのデュオのライヴ盤。１９２７年に生まれ、弱冠１９歳で初レコーディング。生涯を通じて発表されたアルバムは１００枚近くとマイルス・デイビス並み。北欧の美人と結婚するが、離婚、生涯莫大な慰謝料を搾り取られ「ゲッツ／ジルベルト」などの大ヒットがあるのに、金に困ってピストル強盗をしたという伝説もある。性格はまるで子供がそのまま大人になったようだ、と言われる。全盛期ならともかく、ガンの痛みをこらえながら演奏した１枚が生涯のベスト盤の中の１枚になった。死期が迫り、鬼気せまる演奏というより、達観した人生の「悲しみ」を朗々と吹く。特に８曲目の「ファースト・ソング」を聴くと涙がこらえ切れなくなる。テナー・サックスの巨人がジョン・コルトレーンとソニー・ロリンズなら、ゲッツはテナーの粋人。ゲッツは２０世紀を疾風のように駆け抜けた。（松本敏之）
