『最初のワルプルギスの夜』は1972.2.4.のライブ録音。
とにかく前半部分が雑な仕上がりになっているのが惜しい。

序奏は、ライブならではの勢いがある…かというと、そうでもない。
独唱陣もエンジンがかかるまで時間が掛かってる。
実際に会場にいたら印象は違うかも…という感じでもない。
部屋で聴いてて「ちょっと退屈」と思う箇所では、会場ノイズが増えるからねえ。聴衆は正直で残酷ですね。

ただし、合唱はよく練習が行き届いているようで、最初から最後まで細やかで美しい。

う〜ん。前半を説明的な演奏にするなら、スタジオ録音で細部を詰めたの方が、良かったろうに…。

バス独唱がKommt!〜とラップのように歌い出す箇所が、Allegro moderatoの指定よりも随分速くて、かっこいい!
続く男声合唱と木管の絡みも活力に満ちていて素晴らしい。

その後は、全体的に勢いと柔軟性を得て、やっと全員が本調子になる感じ。
以降のノリの良さは、オーマンディの快演と甲乙付けがたい。
スタジオ録音でないのがホント悔やまれますねぇ。
(オーマンディ盤−現在towerでCD復刻されてます−は、最初から最後までギンギンにテンション上げ上げなので、
聴き手に体力と気持ちの余裕がない時だと、付いて行くのがしんどいかもね)

カップリングの序曲等について手短かに…。
やはりライブ録音(1979.10.19.)で、会場ノイズもありますが、演奏自体はなかなか瑞々しいと思う。
