ジョー･ヘンダーソンは新主流派のテナー･サックス奏者の中で、ウエイン･ショーターと並ぶ最も才能豊かなプレイヤーだといえよう。総合的な音楽家としての才能で言えば、ショーターに一歩譲るとしても、プレイヤーとしての力量はコルトレーン以後に登場したテナーの中でも１，２を争う存在だと思う。ジョージ・コールマン、サム・リバースなどといった才人もいるが、モーダルなフレーズにおけるメロディアスで創造性に満ちたソロをとれるという意味でヘンダーソンのプレイは一流の域に達する。ダークで鋭い切れ味の音色とヴァリアントあふれるアドリブのさえは見事としか言いようがない。このアルバムはインビテーションに始まり、RJ,The Bead Gameなどハードな曲目も聞かれ、ヘンダーソンの真摯で、漸進的な音楽思想が反映されている。
