レッドガーランド（ｐ）、ポールチェンバース（ｂ）、アートテイラー（ｄｓ）をバックとしたコルトレーンのクインテット作品。この頃の録音は色々なセッションの寄せ集めが多いが、本盤は１９５７年８月２３日録音だけからなるので、統一感があって良い。タイトル曲ではレッドのブルージーなピアノを中心とするソリッドなトリオのサウンドに続いて、トレーンがソロをとる。ぶっとい鳴りのテナーが心地良い。これだけの音圧の高さは滅多に聴けない程の力強さだ。徐々にスピードを上げていき、音数が一挙に増えていき凶暴な「シーツオブサウンド」が現れ、あちらこちらに音をまき散らす。上り龍の勢いが感じられるトレーンのグルーブ感溢れるテナーが印象に残る。二曲目のバラードでも、曲自体はたいしたことはないが、ブリリアントなトレーンのテナーの鳴りが曲を盛り上げる。シーツオブサウンドの完成を告げる作品であると同時に、見事なサーポートを聴かせるレッドガーランドトリオとの一級のハードバップアルバムでもある。
