2005年7月1日から5年ぶりの来日公演を行うジェフ・ベックの来日記念盤。2003年9月10、11日にニューヨークのB.B. King Blues Club にて行われたライブ音源を収録。オリジナル・アルバム『Jeff』からのナンバーほか名曲の数々、そして偉大なるジャズ界の重鎮チャールズ・ミンガスの「Goodbye Pork Pie」、最近のライブでは欠かせないビートルズの名曲「A Day In The Life」のカバーも含む全16曲。ドラムに Terry Bozzio、キーボードにTony Hymas をバックに従えた最強トリオでのパフォーマンスを堪能しよう。

JEFF BECKのメンバーでオレは一番大好きな組み合わせ
GUITAR SHOPのトリオ、TONY HYMAS、TERRY BOZZIOとの
2003年のライヴ。
そりゃ、アルバムと比べれば、曲を100%再現している
わけではないし、粗い部分はたくさんあるけど、ライヴの
生々しさがそのまま伝わってくる。
前半は生々しすぎてファン以外には少々ツライかもしれないが、
一度でもライヴを観たことのある者にとっては、その緊張感を思い
起こさせる貴重な音源となるはず。
また、後半、SEASONSからWHERE WERE YOUへのメドレー、
その後MY THINGへの流れは、ヴォーカルが入って余裕が出たのか、
メリハリがつき、ものすごくカッコイイ。

ファンなら間違いなく買うべし。

私が　ベック、ボガート＆アピス武道館公演を観たのは　
高校３年生の時だったのだろうか？　
それとも　予備校生の時だったのだろうか？　
そんな若いときの興奮が蘇った！　
当時の記憶から、彼が　その気になって演奏すれば　
スタジオ録音盤同様のクオリティで演奏出来ることを　
私は知っている。
　しかし、その”ＢＢ＆Ａ　LIVE　”もそうであるが、　
この『　JEFF　BECK　LIVE　』も　若年リスナーや　
評論家から　音質やミスがどうのこうのって言われるであろうけれども、
そんな　音楽雑誌ライター達の小賢しい記事を鵜呑みにすることなしに　
ステレオセットのスピーカーが空気を振動させる大音量を耳の鼓膜で聞いて欲しい。　
携帯デジタル機器のイヤーホンで頭蓋骨を振動させて脳に入る音はダメだ！　
　「Truth」のレコードジャケットには「スピーカを大音量にして聞いてくれ」と
コメントされていた。以来、私はこれを守っている。
この『　JEFF　BECK　LIVE　』は宝物だ。
なぜなら、大音量でステレオセットのスピーカーから発せられる　
彼らの演奏が、ライブハウスの最前列に居るかのような音圧で　
私をノックアウトしてくれる。

実はこのアルバムはずいぶん前にジェフ(以下、先生）のオフィシャルHPから、購入したのだが、テリーボジオが久々に参加しているだけあって、デジタル３部作とはハナから気合が違う。ワイヤード時の熱狂をライブで再現したような、異常な熱狂である。
まあ、先生ははっきりいってライブでのミスが多いし、それ故に先生もライブアルバムを出すことにたいして、否定的なのは有名な話なのだが、本作はそんな細かいことどーでもいいもんねという感じで、とにかく大音量できいてほしい。
もちろんメンツがメンツだけに、全曲聞物だが、やはりすごいのは６曲目のScatterbrainだ。これは凄い。もう口あんぐりの世界で、とくにテリーボジオのイキまくりは凄い。この曲の決定的バージョンといっても過言ではない。
とにかく最近の先生に不満があった人はぜひいますぐ聴いてほしいです。絶対に損はさせません!!
