　端的に言えば、この人は音楽を欲する人。一つのＣＤに連続的なストーリー性をもたせたその功績は絶大なるもの。私はこのハスキーなシャウトが好きだ。今までピンと来るものがなかった人にはぜひ聴いて見て欲しい。奮い立つようなしびれる曲ばかり。ロックの金字塔を打ち立てた黄金盤。日本では長淵剛や佐野元春などその影響を受けた人は多い。こういう歌い方もあるんだと日本に教えてくれた人。私は当時のものを持っているが、このような形で復刻してくれるのは嬉しい。　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　ジャケットから覗く若き日のスプリングスティーンの溢れんばかりの姿がそこにある。表紙を広げると、裏にいるクラレンス・クレモンズとスプリングスティーンとが互いに強く主張し合っているのがわかる。今でこそスタンダードになった姿だが、当時は強烈だった。「裏道り」は何度聴いても良い。「涙のサンダー・ロード」「明日なき暴走」「ジャングルランド」などどれもすばらしいが、このＣＤに流れる奮い立つようなドライブ感は今でも忘れられない。　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　復刻盤ではあるが、当時のものがなかなか手に入らない状態を考えると、やはり貴重なもの。あまり聴いたことがない人はしっかりと歌詞も見て欲しい。そこから聴こえる歌はそれぞれつながっていて一つの物語となっていることに気づいて欲しい。ズバリ、この眼鏡は５つ星（これ以外はつけられない）と見ます。ブルース・スプリングスティーンが己の音楽を昇華した瞬間の煌きがここにある。

私はスプリングスティーンを知らなかった。ずっと敬遠していた。「ボーン・イン・ザ・Ｕ．Ｓ．Ａ」のイメージが強すぎたからだ。
単調なメロディ、叫ぶだけ、シンセサイザー。
友人が薦めても聴く気がなかった。
それから２０年程経って、なにげなくこのアルバムを聴いてみた。

「おれ、間違ってたわ・・・。」

このめくるめくグルーヴはなんだ！？このほとばしるエモーションはなんだ！？このバンドの一体感は！？
心臓がバクバクしてしまった。いい歳して。

完全無欠のロックアルバムとは、こういうことを言うんだろう。
不完全さも、ほころびも取り込んで、突っ走って行くような。

これがスプリングスティーンか。
参ったよホント。

このアルバムを聴かずしてロックを語るなかれという名盤。
一曲目の「Thounder Road」の最後にある「この街は負け犬でいっぱい。
俺は勝つためにこの街を出る」というラインがこのアルバムを象徴している。
とにかく夜の街でうろうろし、満たされない若者の心や行動をここまで
リアルに表現できる人は空前絶後だろう。
「夜は自殺マシーンで走り回る」などというフレーズはめったに書けやしない。
この当時から一貫して人の心の悲しさ、むなしさ、あせり、絶望そして希望を
書き続けてきたBRUCEの最高傑作の一枚（彼の最高は何枚もある）。
「Born To Run」のイントロ並びに途中でBRUCEがカウントとるところは
何度聴いても背中に鳥肌が立つ。
そして内容に負けないように造った紙ジャケ並びに帯は秀逸な出来。
これで文句いったらバチがあたる。
音はリマスターしていないが、Bruce本人のマスターいじるなという希望なら
しょうがない。音楽は音質で聴くモノではないですから。
