８０年代パンクシーン、フリクション・リザード・Mrカイトなどを東京ロッカーズの表の顔とすると、EDPS・突然段ボール・ＰＨＥＷなどのＰＡＳＳレコード陣はその裏の顔だという事になるのではないでしょうか。グンジョーガクレヨンもそんなアングラな匂いを漂わせるＰＡＳＳレコードのバンドのひとつで、一言では形容できない、ノイズ、インプロ、フリージャズ等を飲み込んだバンドです。なんとまだ
活動しているそうです、現在では完全なインプロヴィゼーションですが本作ではまだ楽譜も存在した模様。

怠惰なリズムを刻むドラム、這いずり回るようなベース、
アートリンゼイを思い起こすギャリギャリギター、それに不思議にかみあうボーカルと電子音。
必然と偶然を行き来する不安定さがかっこよすぎる！

1970年代後半、イギリスを初めとしたパンクムーブメントと同時並行で発生した
TG等を中心とした、インダストリアル“アンチヒーロー”ムーブメント。
それは曖昧にくくられ“アバンギャルド”などと業界都合で呼ばれていた。

これらの世界の動きに触発を受けたような日本の動きは東京ロッカーズや
東京ニューウエーブとこれまた、まとめられがちであった。

日本ではこのあたり、ごりごりのロックを通過したものと、演劇やアート、映像
に手を染めていた出目のメンバーなどが混在していた。

ヒカシューや、突然ダンボール。当時PASSレーベルに所属したグンジョーガクレ
ヨンが後者にあてはまる。そのためそのライブパフォーマンスもガンガン音楽で
客を引っ張ってゆくのではなく、状況演劇に近かった。

その意味で親切なのはヒカシューであったが、このグンジョーガクレヨンは完全
に孤高であり、今回改めてCD化した彼らの演奏を確認すると、音場表現としか
言えない演奏包まれ、しかし緩急自在の彼らの演奏はフリージャズの気配さえ
も伺えて、混濁して終わりがちな同類達と一線を画している。

シンセをこれだけ音楽的に使いこなしているアーチストも日本では珍しい。
音の密度感に注意して聴いて欲しい。

　すごいですこれは。アヴァンギャルドでありながら、それでいて、どこかかわいらしいです。
　それでいて、全然スカッとできない。わだかまりりが溜まっていく。はやく楽にさせて欲しい。
　でもなにやら軽快。ほんでそれが中毒に。
　非常に中毒性の高い作品です。
　おしゃれぶったカフェでこのCD流して、おしゃれぶった女性を嫌な気持ちにさせてやりたい。　
　そんな素敵な傑作です。
