GAINAX制作のオリジナルアニメ第3巻。｢商品｣を「生産」するアニメ会社が多い中、｢作品｣を「制作」し続けるGAINAXのポリシーはこの作品でもきっちり守られています。
今回のメインはチコ、舞台は木星です。｢えっ木星って･･･｣と思われた方、GAINAXはそんな甘い仕事はしませんのでご安心を(笑)。
チコの過去から現在にいたるまでに培われてきた行動理念についての物語がメインになりますが、表現や演出の一つ一つがよく練られていて、とても魅力的なキャラクターに仕上がっていますし、それと対になるノノの見せ方も見事。
また、戦闘シーンも、この作品らしくけれんみたっぷりに美しく魅せてくれますし、とんでもない超常兵器も実にこの作品らしく発動します。
裏設定が膨大な作品のため、30分という時間で描ききれない部分があり、説明不足な点があるのは確かなのですが、前作同様、圧倒的パワーとスピード感で視聴者を引き付けてやまない魅力を持っている作品です。これから先、ラストに向かって、前作のような｢美しいラスト｣を飾れるのか?ここが最大の注目になりますね。期待して待ちたいと思います。

　前作「トップをねらえ！」では、ＳＦテイストを前面に出し、「科学講座」でエーテル宇宙やアイス・セカンド、タンホイザー・ゲートなどのように何が何でも説明付けを加え、むちゃくちゃな中にもリアリティを生み出していた。
　しかし、本作品では、キャラクター・メカニックともに、時代に合わせた軽快な絵柄となり、無理なこじつけを無くしてＳＦファン以外にもアピールをしているようだ。
　今回は、新型バスターマシンをめぐるノノとチコの競争から、チコの過去やノノのやさしさと志の高さが描かれている。
　物理的に存在しない温度と時間旅行の関係には？？？であるが、ファンタジーとしての美しさは、雪・星をからめてあり洗練さを感じる。
　バスターマシンの描き方も、第一話のように重厚感・巨大感を前面に出した地上戦における表現から、スピードを重視した宇宙戦闘描写にスイッチしている。
　今後に期待の持てる仕上がりになっている。

画面の隅々にまで気を配ったレイアウト
ブレのない、そしてリアルすぎない印象的な作画のキャラクター
濃密な空間設計とサラウンド
単に硬質でない、空気感のある未来世界
ハッタリの効いたロボット戦闘シーン
そして反芻できるダイアローグとドラマ

鶴巻監督以下、ガイナのこだわりぬいた部分がよい方向へ
さらなる加速を感じる力作
お金を払って観るべき作品＝ＯＶＡであることを慎重に選んで
作品作りをする鶴巻監督に乾杯！
次巻がこんなに待ち遠しいのは久々です
