DVD Vol.1では、比較的まともに「90年代以降のロボットアニメ」を装っていたアクエリオンだが、遂にこのVol.2収録の第4話「裸足の戦士」から、その本領を発揮し始める。

このアニメは、予備知識なしで見る方が面白いので、ネタばらしは極力避けるが、不動司令が、はじめてその独特すぎる思想の一端を披露するのが第4話なのだ。
その突拍子もない精神論を真顔で演説する不動司令、それを拝聴して納得させられてしまうエレメント（パイロット）たち。一見すると怪しい宗教やセミナーのようにも見える、実にシュールな場面だ。

だが、それを「ああ！これはギャグなのだな」と判ってしまえば、そこからは、めくるめく笑いの世界に没入することが出来る。以降は、どんな真面目な場面にも笑いが隠されている事に気づき、よってアクエリオンの豊饒なる世界の扉は開かれる。

しかし、この作品の楽しみ方はそれで終わるものではない。
突拍子もない不動司令の思想が、実は河森監督が世界各地の辺境を旅して得た「生の実感」に裏打ちされており、荒唐無稽なようでいて不思議と説得力がある事に気付けば、アクエリオンの「奥の院」の扉は開かれる。

それは河森監督が「アルジュナ」で言わんとした事を、より強い確信とより洗練された表現によって、より鳥瞰的な視点から主張しようとする試みのようにも思える。

アクエリオンは、そういう二重三重の楽しみ方が出来るアニメである。

アクエリオンという作品は、ストーリーや戦闘が場当たり的に進んで行くような
印象を受け、綿密な設定に裏打ちされるリアルロボット路線に慣れ親しんだ
アニメファンは、戸惑うところが多々あると思う。
監督自身が「ロボットアニメとしての踏み絵」と語った第４話には、
それが如実に表れている。

目的がさっぱり分からない特訓（授業？）。
不可解な説教をたれる司令。
転倒させられ、獣のように跳ね回る主役ロボ。
強引に勝利の糸口を見出す主人公。
突然、（地球規模に）でかくなる話。
そして、音楽が加わる事によって、感動すら覚えるクライマックス。

そのノリを受け入れるか否か、個々人の感性によって大きく分かれるところだが、
作品の方向性を視聴者に認識させたこのエピソードによって、
劇中同様アクエリオンが本格的に「立ち上がった」と言って良い。

このクオリティでギャグをここまで連発する作品が今まであったろうか？映像は現在できる最高レベル、音楽は現在のアニメ音楽界で頂点に立つと言っても過言ではない菅野よう子。そして何よりもこのストーリー！腹を抱えて笑ったかと思うと熱すぎるロボットバトル！そして石塚運昇氏演ずる不動ＧＥＮ！やばい、やばすぎる…そんな笑いとおなかいっぱいのダブルパンチでもう絶倒間違いなしの最上級品がみなさんの目の前に！これはもうおいしくいただくほかないでしょう！さああなたもいっしょに、「創聖！合体！ＧＯ、アクエリオーーーン！！！」
