　8cmシングルが絶滅したのに伴い、2005年12cmで再発売が実現した大ヒットシングル。SMAPの香取慎吾が主演したドラマ「透明人間」の主題歌だ。ラテンっぽい哀愁と和風の歌詞が、不思議な形で融合した曲。覚えやすい優れたメロディーながら、中身は相当実験的。

　桑田佳祐という人は、言葉を直感的なイメージで操ることに長けた人である。また時として邦楽の既成概念を壊す人である。この曲では「とぅわ」「そぅわ」など、日本語にない表現を敢えて使っている。

　♪生まれくセリフとは（とぅわ）、蒼き星の挿話（そぅわ）
　♪愛の調べとは（とぅわ）、愛のことだま
　♪釈迦（しゃっか）堂も　闇や　宵や宵や（いぇいやー）

といった感じ。某カラオケ番組で、この曲を歌わされたクラシック・テノール歌手が、「これはどうやって歌いましょうかねぇー(困)、って感じでした(笑)」とコメントしていたのが興味深かった。結局、割とオリジナル通り歌ってくれたのだった。

　ドラマ「透明人間」のラストは、怪物に姿を変えた父親と、主人公が対決する悲劇のストーリー。哀愁を帯びたミディアム・テンポの旋律が、物語に良く合っていた。見事！

この歌も最初は嫌いでした。サザンらしくないと思ってました。
でも東京ドームで聴いて、そしてその舞台装置に圧倒されて、
一気にすきになりました。愛の言霊・・・大事です。

　お盆や終戦記念日のころを歌いこんである歌詞が、押し付けがましくなく、自然に耳に入ってくる素敵な曲です。
　このリズムにこの歌がのせてある、すごいなと思います。
　何年たっても新鮮です。
