歌詞、メロディ、アレンジ、ボーカル、どれを取ってもサザンの最高傑作といっていいシングルです。
映画「稲村ジェーン」は駄作でした。
しかしその映画がなければ、この傑作は生まれなかったでしょう。
やはり桑田佳祐という人は、音楽人なのです。
年末の日本レコード大賞で「踊るポンポコリン」に負けたときには悔しかった。
本当は「TSUNAMI」の前にレコ大獲れてたはずなのになあ。

まだまだ青い頃「歌なんか聴いて泣くなんて信じられん」と思ってました。
でも大人になって、失恋してこの曲聴いて泣きました。
なんでかしらんけど、涙が止まりませんでした。
稲村ジェーンは見てないけど、この歌は好きです。

過ぎ行く夏とこのバラード、聴いて自分の体験を思い浮かべ涙した人は
数知れないだろう。夏は出会いと別れが交錯する季節。夏の終わりに
これほど胸をしめつけられる歌はない。日本における最高のバラード。
